Question for you CY4A guys who change your own coolant.

The FSM says to "use special tool MB991871 to refill the coolant to the top of the radiator port", and this tool seems to require use of an air compressor.

However, is this tool actually needed? Or can I change the coolant using the normal procedure of removing the drain plug, flushing the system with fresh water, then replacing the plug and refilling with recommended coolant like I’ve done on all my other cars?

Only reason I’m asking is because the radiator filler isn’t on the actual radiator itself, but actually “spliced” in the middle of the top radiator hose. None of my previous cars were like this, so I'm not sure if this requires use of the special tool.

Took a while to aquire but I finally got all the components for a plug and play aftermarket headunit install; retaining steering wheel controls and reverse camera without cutting into the factory harness. Ah happy like papi

Why not ask publicly here for the benefit of others in the same scenario, or PM if you have more personal questions?

You'd most like get responses quicker that way as well.

hello guys,
I'm getting the 2008 galant fortis, jus a few questions if you all can please assist me..
does anyone have a black rear spoiler for sale?or knows where I can get it and at what cost?(new or used)
Which aftermarket head unit can be used to replace the MMCS, so I can keep the features like the rear camera, steering wheel controls (bluetooth + stereo), etc..

Ok will make this simple. Any head unit with a wired remote and rear camera option will work. The MMCS requires CANBUS modules. I searched for months for a aftermarket harness and modules ( which includes the one for the rear camera which transforms 12v to 5 v for the camera to operate )
I was able to replace my head unit on a 2014 GT and retain the camera and steering wheel controls with out having to cut any wires on the harness. You will also need a dash trim ( I bought 4 models ( brands) till I found one that fit right. The 4 harnes required and 2 modules cost approx $1850 tt and the dash trim $600. I am sure the harness will work in the galant fortis because although mitsubishi regularly change the color codes off the wires the way they are pinned are always the same.
If you look 9 post up you will find pics etc.

On mornings when the guy goes to start the car the rpm's fluctuate for a bit then levels off.

His air filter is already changed, injectors cleaned, gets his super gas from the same station.....
I've never experienced this before with my CY.
Any ideas what can be causing this???
I have that same problem with my CY4A. It only happens first thing in the morning when the engine is cold, but my car is parked in a covered garage.

My spark plugs and air filter are brand new, and I use premium gas in the car and just ran thru a bottle of redline injector cleaner, but I still have the problem. Figured it might be the throttle body or maybe the air flow meter needs cleaning, but haven't gotten around to checking it yet...

SHO, aren't the 235s just a bit too wide for a 7" rim. I'm thinking the sidewal might extend past the rim and look like off road pickup wheels? How does it look/fit?

have that issue as well it thought it was normal operation for a cold start.
Galant Fortis.

let us know what you dig up.

^^^ Mines seems to have stopped as of the last 2 or 3 weeks now - issue has not happened since.

Only things I did was was what I listed in my post. Maybe it needed some driving (or "blowing out" as some may call it) after sitting down for some weeks in transit to T&T.

Guys I need to change my front rotors as it seems they're warped (getting vibration when braking).

I'm looking to upgrade from OEM with some sport rotors, but can anyone say if replacement rotors for the US spec 2008 Lancer GTS model would work?

My car is a 2008 CY4A (4 wheel disc brakes with the 18" rims), and that GTS model seems to be the closest equivalent US model.

For you guys infor.....Part number is 4615A196.
Local dealer price quote was like $2000-3000 each depending on how quickly the customer needed to have them bring item in.
Online was US $200 each (no discounts sought).

I took the electronic fuel injection course in 2011, at UWI open campus in Carapichaima and found it was worth it. I gave my views on this (Posted Sun. 22nd may 2011)

I am also doing the auto mechanics course at this same place but sadly it is not worth it and I do not recommend anyone to signup for it.
The class is 60 contact hours on Saturdays and I have 3 more classes left. It suppose to be from 9.00am to 1.00pm but usually starts just after 10.00am and stops after 1.00pm

Compared to the EFI course, this course has no practical .

The teacher , (Mr. Breton I think ) is a retired person who teaches the class
While he is old school , knows his stuff and gives good info and tips ,many times when he starts to teach he always goes off topic and talks about things not related to mechanics.
Unfortunately other students in the class encourages this.

You are provided with copies of two text book approx. $200.00 each ( if you want it ).
Most of the things talked about can be obtained from youtube.
I signed on for some practical experience eg replacing brake shoes, pads , bleeding , adjusting/ timing valves, replacing timing belts / chain etc . but their are none of these since according to him
" the school has no such things for we to work on "

For an auto shop class their are no engines or systems to practice these on , no special tools or even a 12v car battery.

If you need some practical this is not the course for you.
Sadly most of the students in the class are involved in the field, ie some work in mechanics shop or have their own garages and as most of them said " I just here for the certificate " and beg to write the exam now.

The topics covered so far are

1 Using measuring instruments Micro meter screw gauge and vernier caliper
we learn to use the micrometer but no calipers were available

2)Two and Four Stroke engine operation
we went through this in theory and he showed us inside a scrapped 2 stroke engine lying around

3)Ignition systems coil and timing
we did this with a model in class mounted on a ply board employing an ignition coil with a distributor with pionts and spark plugs. Timing was not covered.
Most of the explanation was theory.

4)Fuel system carburetion : we did not do this since he said this is no longer used in cars

5)Cooling systems : we went through its parts in theory and he talked about problems and solutions.
very informative

6)Lubrication system : we went through this in theory, talked mostly about oils and what the marking on the oil container means ie 5W20 etc.

7)Steering and alignment : we now started this

We still have topics to cover in 3 classes !!

8) Braking system service and repair
9) Cylinder head service and repair
10) Engine fitting: Main and big end bearings
Piston in cylinder and ring tolerances
11)Engine timing
12)Valve adjustments
13)troubleshooting

Don't know how these will be accomplished in 3 sessions. Will keep posted.

Anthony, I also did that course a few years ago. With regards to practical experience, Mr. Brereton is usually more than willing to offer this and even stays back after class once time permits with students. However like you said the auto shop is lacking so work is usually done on students cars.

He also knows that most students are there just for the certificate so he accommodates this. If you show an interest tho and if you ask questions, he's more than willing to show you something on the topic and teach you things. Challenge the teacher, he'll teach you a thing or two about basic mechanics.

Just remember, he's old school....

Thinking of doing a Evo 10 front brakes & rotor conversion (brembo) on my Galant Fortis. Anyone did it before? Pros and cons?

Cost of Brembo calipers and rotors gonna cost about 4000usd new. Unless ur getting a used set from an Evo x. The cost alone is a con for a non turbo vehicle
