JDM_GUY... The T1R is a better tyre but will likely be almost twice the price..
I currently have SPT and still have very great things to say about it, but since the price increase I don't think I can justify it.

Considered Maxxis MA-Z1?

Sorry, was referring to the price increase you mentioned but I use 195/50/15. That price is around the same of Potenzas I think

I have to get some new tires.

ghostbusters wrote:
In fact, the Proxes never placed higher than eighth in any test, and in two dry tests, the autocross and the skidpad, the Toyo finished last, trailing the top finishers by significant margins. In some tests it felt better than it actually was performing, but overall, Geswein noted it was "soft and imprecise" and didn't "feel like a sport tire."

taken from caranddriver.com. running these tyres about 2 weeks now and agree completely with their analysis.

check it out ghostbusters has been using t1rs for a couple weeks he is unimpressed he is a devious corner carver

The MA-Z1 is not holding up on the track. The side blocks are eating away.

Take a look at the tires after 3 runs.

Ditto on that... loosing whole sections of the thread... I think the deep groved diagonal pattern is to blame, along with this relatively soft compound

Still a great street tyre though

A long life tyre is not necessarily always a good thing. Higher treadwear usually means a harder compound which sometimes equates to less grip.

Sufficient grip is relative though, depending on your driving style.

First and last time i used HTR200 they were as noisy as fcuk halfway through. I changed perfectly good wheel bearings because of them.

Went Mileage Mack yesterday,

15" Khumo KU31 is $826
15" Toyo R1R is $886

I'm sure they are both good tyers, but that is steep, especially since the KU31 was quoted @ $550 at some point earlier in this thread

Star Spec replacement out BTW

Yep, like I said, I like those KU31 (Kumho SPT) but I cant justify the price increase.. It is just 2 or 3 yrs ago I paid $500 flat each for 205/55/15..

When time to replace, will have to look at some alternatives.

ARC is pretty bad for softer compounds... had continental sportcontact 2 after one day tyres here heavily pitted... but tyre ware improves when you improve.

on a side note, im looking for 205/40/17 (OEM tyre size for my car) not interested in chinese brands and not so much a fan of DZ101 (had these- in my casr poor in the wet) or HTR2s... $3000 per single Michelin and $1800 BF a little out of my price range what suggestions you guys have, where sells them and whats the usual price range?

Hankook Ventus. I am not sure of the current price as they (215/45-17) came with my car when I bought it from N&M. Try Tyre Centre as I believe they are the local dealer for Hankook.

Any reviews on Hankook Ventus Prime 2 vs Hankook V12 EVO vs Bridgestone Potenza RE050?

Have to replace my potenzas this year and I am looking for a suitable replacement. Re050 seems pricey online and noisy after 20000 km. The Hankooks seem like a nice alternative based on ratings but not much hands on. I'm looking for 225/45/r17. Feel free to recommend other tyres in this performance bracket.

Local prices would be appreciated as well if possible.

Try tyre clinic and they check for Dunlop sp9000. It's not the best but it's better than the dz101

Try Automotive components Ltd and hope they have pirelli or Goodyear in stock.

Mileage mack for toyo proxes...

Tyre centre for hankook.

A side note : I have never seen anything good come out of running 205/40R17 on our wonderful roads.... If you pressure it correctly the ride is hard and if you under pressure it the sidewalls crack.

I've tried that SP9000 and for a high performance summer tyre, it was not at all impressive. It is better than the DZ101 (almost anything is  ), but the price difference between the DZ101 and the SP9000 wasn't worth it for me.

The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo is by far the best street tyre I've tried. Great grip, very good noise and treadwear tradeoffs, and resists hydroplaning very well. But they're very pricey now and are a pain to find your size in locally.

Next closest thing I've had to the V12s are the Sumitomo HTR Z3. Excellent summer performance tyre for the price.

I too am looking to buy some new tires very soon. Currently have dunlop dz101, 205/50/15 bought those since decemeber 2010 for $500/each @ racetrack wheels and they have been good thus far. They stand up pretty good to pot holes and bad roads and they look good. However i have noticed it rides pretty hard (i thought it was my suspension) and they make some road noise. ANyone else had the hard ride issue with these tyres? Since in my car i use adjustable shocks and not all my bushings are rubber.
And what is a good tire to look at that is reasonably priced?
