LOL

Dzeko is a prostitute like the rest of the manc side. It just goes to show that money can buy players, but it can't buy class. I read that tevez refuse to warm up. Lol. And he's their most prized possession. What a waste! I hope for the return leg, we run a rout!

I laugh when people suggested that Man city can beat Bayern, u need pedigree in this competition no matter how good u think u are (or how much money u have)

2010 i take rell talks until we knock out Manu, then them fellas join the Inter bus

2011 i was ecstatic in the first half then mashed up in the 2nd when Inter again knock us out

But our team is stronger than ever and fluid on the field

Im glad that is not me alone on 2ner like the past few years supporting Bayern

i was fighting alone for sooooo long...lol

Hoffenheim to try their luck vs Bayern
Hoffenheim will be the next team trying to score a goal - and possibly beat - German league leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Munich have won their last 10 competitive games, six in the Bundesliga and four in the Champions league, without dropping a goal since losing the season-opener 1-0 at home against Borussia Moenchengladbach on August 7.

Manchester City were the latest victims on Tuesday as the ambitious Premier League side went down 2-0 at the Allianz Arena.

Nothing seems to go wrong for Munich, with Franck Ribery back in sparkling form, Arjen Robben available again from injury and the once unstable defence a brick wall for any opponent.

"Right now, it's not just that we have great team spirit, we're extremely settled and stable, our zonal play is excellent - and we have outstanding individuals too," said coach Jupp Heynckes.

Bayern command the standings with 18 points and an impressive 21-1 goal, two points clear of Werder Bremen and Moenchengladbach. Eight goals have come Germany forward Mario Gomez, who tops the Bundesliga scorers' table in search of back-to-back top honours.

Munich are unbeaten in six top flight meetings with fourth-ranked Hoffenheim (12 points), who are coming off a 2-0 defeat in Cologne.

Hoffenheim's Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson said that Munich are "an outstanding team and they're in great form," but still hopes that his team can defy the odds.

"We're playing at home and we want to get back to winning ways. There's no reason why we can't take points off them," he said.

The other big weekend game is on Sunday between SV Hamburg and Schalke -with Huub Stevens making his league return as Schalke coach after also being wanted by the bottom-ranked hosts.

Hamburg dismissed Michael Oenning on September 19 and Schalke's Ralf Rangnick resigned three days later citing burnout. Hamburg held talks with Stevens about a return to the club he coached 2007-2008 but ended them once Stevens said he was also meeting with Schalke.

Stevens signed on Tuesday at Schalke, a club he led to the 1997 Uefa Cup title and two German cups during a first tenure 1996-2002.

"The team has a lot of potential. But we have to find the right balance," said Stevens.

Schalke lie fifth with 12 points while Hamburg remain bottom on four points despite a first season victory last weekend, 2-1 in Stuttgart, under caretaker Rodolfo Esteban Cardoso, who will also be in charge on Sunday.

Champions Borussia Dortmund celebrate their 1,500th Bundesliga game in a first meeting with (winless) Augsburg on Saturday and aim to pick up the pieces from an eye-opening 3-0 Champions League drubbing at Olympique Marseille.

Dortmund wasted a host of chances again in southern France and individual mistakes at the back taught them a harsh European lesson.

The other games are Kaiserslautern v Stuttgart (Friday), Bayer Leverkusen v Wolfsburg, Nuremberg v Mainz, Hertha Berlin v Cologne, Freiburg v Moenchengladbach (Saturday) and Hanover v Werder Bremen (Sunday).

Beckenbauer: Bayern not like Barca
ESPNsoccernet staff

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer says that his side are not at the same level as Barcelona, after various media outlets hailed the recent performances of the Germans.
Franz Beckenbauer is Bayern Munich's honorary president (GettyImages)

Beckenbauer have conceded just one goal in the Bundesliga this season and sit top of the table with 18 points from seven games. They also top Group A of the Champions League after victories over Villarreal and Manchester City, leading many to suggest that they could go all the way to glory this season.

However, Beckenbauer stressed that Bayern should not put themselves among the elite of Europe just yet.

"We should not forget that although Manchester City are a good club and are stronger than many Bundesliga sides, they're not a great team like Real Madrid or Manchester United," Beckenbauer wrote in his column in Bild.

"Bayern are definitely not of the same level as Barcelona just yet. Claiming that would be a big exaggeration. Barcelona have won so many titles in the past few years, while we were relatively anonymous during those years."

The economic powerhouse team of the economic powerhouse country, creating revenue that will eclipse the spending power of every rival, certainly inside Germany, but possibly beyond.

The most recent European money list made Bayern Munich a top-four club, but that does not tell the whole story. Bayern’s commercial revenues alone, minus prize money or transfer profits, are substantial enough to have justified a place in the top 10.
In 2009-10, when the last figures were published, they earned £150m commercially - more than the entire revenue stream at Manchester City, or even at a Champions League regular such as Olympique Lyonnais of France. Their nearest commercial rival in Europe would be Real Madrid, who earn £17.3m less. Manchester United, with the greatest commercial revenue in the Premier League, trail Munich by £63.91m.

Men in the middle: Manchester City represent a different model to the one employed at the Allianz Arena
Sponsorship and marketing make up just under half of Munich’s total commercial pot, bringing in £72m, mainly due to the benefits of being not just the biggest club in Germany, but the only Bundesliga club with a global profile.
Munich have a unique selling point and their commercial tie-ups are blue chip: Deutsche Telekom, Audi, adidas. The Deutsche Telekom shirt sponsorship was the most lucrative in Europe until Barcelona struck oil in Qatar.
So what is the long-term plan? Bayern Munich financial director Karl Hopfner claims that Munich are financial fair play compliant now and within five years could be in a position to spend the £80m that Real Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo. Munich’s reputation is for conservatism in the transfer market. Flexing their muscles as the financial superpower of the European game, that could be about to change.

Eleventh clean sheet for Neuer but FCB held
01.10.2011

Manuel Neuer passed the 1,000 minute mark without conceding, but Bayern’s run of ten wins on the trot came to an end in a goalless draw away to a strong Hoffenheim side on Saturday. It was in truth a good point for Munich, who were pushed all the way by the home side but still survived a stern test of their credentials in the wake of an energy-sapping Champions League win in midweek.

The 30,150 full house at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena saw the league leaders create the opening chance of the match, but FCB spent the rest of the first half keeping their lively opponents at bay, as Jupp Heynckes’ men were forced onto the back foot for almost the first time this season. There were opportunities for both sides in an evenly-matched second half, although the visitors tightened up considerably compared to the first period and were ultimately well worth their eleventh clean sheet on the bounce, even if the forward line looked a shade blunt on the day.

The result means FCB move onto 19 points from eight games and retain the lead in the Bundesliga standings, although Bremen can move level at the top if they beat Hannover on Sunday. In the absence of domestic football for the next two weeks, the Bavarians are not in action again until Saturday 15 October, when they entertain promoted Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.

Europe’s meanest defence
Just one goal conceded in twelve games
29.09.2011

Van Buyten or Badstuber? Rafinha or Boateng? Luiz Gustavo or Tymoshchuk? Against Freiburg? Against Schalke? Against Manchester City? Regardless of who plays and the identity of their opponents, Bayern have kept clean sheet after clean sheet for weeks now. In the 12 matches of the campaign to date, only Gladbach’s Igor de Camargo has succeeded in putting the ball past Manuel Neuer, and that was more than 50 days ago.

Since that game, Bayern have won ten matches on the trot, and have shut out their opponents in all ten matches. That is a new best for the club, while a goal difference of +20 (21 for, one against) after seven matches is a Bundesliga record. Overall, the club’s stats so far of 31 goals scored and just one conceded stands up extremely well in comparison with almost every other pro club. It is no overstatement to say that Bayern currently boast Europe’s meanest defence.

Excellent post axe! if there has to be a model european club, it has to be bayern. It should come as no surprise that bayern encompasses everything that is german; strong brand awareness like adidas, bmw, audi and volkswagen, resilience and the die-hard attitude like post-war deustchland and its current flagship position in the eurozone. Just amazing! And if I'm not mistaken the club is altruistic even with their city rivals 1860 munich (low interest loans and bailouts). Quite impressive.

And neuer looking in great shape for euro 2012 too. We have a guaranteed 15 years of german futbol to expect.

Good night for FCB men
Bayern stars fire Germans to Istanbul victory
08.10.2011

A fine collective display from a seven-strong FCB contingent saw Germany move onto a maximum 27 points from their nine EURO 2012 qualifiers to date after beating Turkey 3-1 in Istanbul on Friday. The result means the Germans, who had already won Group A, extend their lead in the standings over Belgium (15 points) and the Turks (14), underlining their status as hot contenders for next summer’s tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

Coach Joachim Löw fielded Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm, Jérôme Boateng, Holger Badstuber, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller and Mario Gomez in his starting line-up, all seven of his fit FCB men. The 52,500 crowd saw goals for the visitors from Gomez (35), Müller (66) and Schweinsteiger (86, pen), who was earning his 90th cap on the night, with Hakan Balta (79) pulling one back for the Turks.

Neuer’s superb save

“Our target is ten wins from our ten matches, and we intend to finish the job against the Belgians,” commented Neuer, who prevented his side falling behind early on with a stunning save from former FCB idol Hamit Altintop. Later in the game, the Bayern keeper set up the goals for both Gomez and Müller with trademark clearances, combining quick thinking and tremendous precision.

“Overall, we can be very satisfied,” said Müller, who was nevertheless unhappy with Germany’s finishing. “We wasted a lot of good chances on the break. We should have scored far more often.” Gomez was generally in agreement: “We stood our ground well right from the start. All in all, we’ve got to be pleased.”

Van Buyten and Belgium still in it

Elsewhere in the same group, Daniel van Buyten and Belgium retain a slim chance of making the play-offs. The Red Devils beat Kazakhstan 4-1 and are now a point ahead of Turkey with a game still to go. Daniel and Co face the daunting task of travelling to Düsseldorf to meet Germany on Tuesday, whereas Altintop and his team-mates take on Azerbaijan at home.

Timmy Simmons (40, pen) and Eden Hazard (43) put the Belgians ahead before the interval, with Vincent Kompany (49) and Marvin Ogunjimi (84) scoring in the second half. Nurtaz Kurgulin was sent off for the visitors on the hour, but Kairat Nurdauletov still netted a consolation from the spot with four minutes remaining.

Wins for Alaba and Tymoshchuk

Bayern’s David Alaba also finished on the winning side in a dead Group A rubber as Austria thumped Azerbaijan 4-1 in Baku. Following Saša Yunisoðlu’s 27th-minute dismissal, Andreas Ivanschitz (34) handed the Austrians a half-time lead. Marc Janko (52, 62) and sub Zlatko Junuzovic (90+1) added second-half goals for Alaba and Co, with Vüqar Nadirov (74) pulling one back for the home side. Bayern youngster David completed the 90 minutes.

Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Ukraine, who qualify automatically for the 2012 finals as co-hosts, ended a four-game losing streak with a comfortable 3-0 friendly victory over Bulgaria in Kyiv. Yevgen Selin (7) and Andriy Shevchenko (39) put Ukraine in the driving seat, before Andriy Yarmolenko rounded off the scoring eight minutes from time.

Robben ruled out for a month
Dutchman can resume light training after a fortnight

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has warned Arjen Robben could be out for a month after undergoing surgery on an inguinal hernia after suffering with a groin problem all season.

The Dutchman will subsequently miss Saturday's clash with Hertha Berlin having been told to rest for fortnight, but the manager fears it could be longer.

Heynckes told the club's official website: "The fact is Arjen needs to rest for 14 days and then he will start with light training.

"We cannot say precisely when his comeback will be.

"I believe it will be several weeks before he is available again."

The Dutch star has scored twice for the German Bundesliga leaders so far this season in four appearances.

Bayern Munich could be tested by dangerous Napoli

Bayern Munich's 100 percent record in the Champions League could face a serious test against a dangerous Napoli side on Tuesday, in a match that will mark a return of sorts for the German team's manager.

Jupp Heynckes was in his first stint as Bayern coach in 1989 when Bayern was eliminated by Diego Maradona's Napoli in the UEFA Cup semifinals - and the sides haven't met since.

''Napoli is just as dangerous a squad now as they were then,'' Heynckes said. ''They run a lot and play exciting football, which isn't really very Italian.''

Bayern leads Group A with six points from two games. Napoli - which is also unbeaten - is next with four, Manchester City has one and Villarreal zero.

City hosts Villarreal in the other group match Tuesday.

Bayern dismissed both Villarreal and City by scores of 2-0 in its opening group matches, while Napoli drew 1-1 at City then marked its first home match in the competition since the Maradona era by beating Villarreal 2-0.

Napoli has also beaten both AC Milan and Inter Milan in Serie A, although Walter Mazzarri's side slumped to a 2-1 home loss against Parma on Saturday.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis suggested that his players were thinking ahead to the Bayern match, which is expected to draw a rare sellout with more than 60,000 fans at the dilapidated San Paolo stadium.

''We've got to keep our feet on the ground, (Bayern) is a great squad but anything is possible,'' De Laurentiis said.

Napoli will once again rely on its ''Three Tenors'' in attack: Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani, whose hat trick against Milan last month was his fifth three-goal game in two seasons.

Napoli relies heavily on counterattacks, attempting to sprint past its opponents, which could be a dangerous tactic against Bayern.

''We're playing the kind of football you don't see every day,'' Heynckes said after Saturday's 4-0 rout of Hertha Berlin, Bayern's 12th consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.

''We're making a very good impression,'' agreed Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who called Napoli ''the best team in Italy at the moment.''

Rummenigge warned against any complacency after Bayern opened a five point gap at the top of the Bundesliga.

''We can't start thinking the season will look after itself from now on. We have to keep our focus and carry on, just as we've done so well thus far,'' said Rummenigge.

Heynckes could afford the luxury of taking off winger Thomas Mueller, defender Philipp Lahm and in-form striker Mario Gomez early on Saturday to prepare for Tuesday's trip.

However, Netherlands winger Arjen Robben remains sidelined after a season beset by back and groin problems.

With the final to be held in Munich next year, Bayern is keen to progress in the Champions league.

''We're still very hungry. We're on a hunt for trophies,'' said Bayern captain Lahm.

Napoli's reserve forward Goran Pandev scored the goal that eliminated Bayern in the last 16 in March while he was still with Inter, although a thigh strain is likely to rule him out this time.

Meanwhile, City will be looking to revitalize its European campaign after beating Aston Villa 4-1 Saturday to go top of the Premier League.

Manager Roberto Mancini is likely to recall Argentina striker Sergio Aguero - Maradona's son-in-law - who only recently returned to training after a groin problem.

The summer signing from Atletico Madrid should start alongside either Edin Dzeko or Mario Balotelli, who has impressed of late with goals in his last two league games.

Playmakers Samir Nasri and David Silva should also be recalled, but Carlos Tevez is still out in the cold while the club investigates his alleged breach of contract for apparently refusing to come off the bench in City's loss to Bayern.

''We've had a slow start in the Champions League but hopefully we'll pick up and put in a performance that we know we can,'' said City midfielder James Milner.

Villarreal has won just two of its last 15 matches in all competitions, and drew 0-0 at Getafe on Saturday.

''It's a tough group, and obviously our first taste of Champions League football together, but we know we can improve on our Champions League performances so far,'' Millner added. ''A win is vitally important and I'm sure we can get it.''

Napoli’s Aurelio De Laurentiis: Bayern Munich are the lords of football at the moment

The Italian supremo salutes the might of Jupp Heynckes' men ahead of the Champions League showdown at the San Paolo
Napoli has made an impressive start to its Champions League campaign but president Aurelio De Laurentiis is preaching caution ahead of Tuesday’s Group A clash against high-flying Bayern Munich.

"Bayern are the lords of football at this time,” the film producer told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We have started from the bottom. We had said we needed to do great things [and] we have arrived in the Champions League [but] we have the most difficult group [and] now we must keep our feet on the ground.”

After a creditable draw away to Manchester City and a fine win at home to Villarreal, the Serie A outfit sit second in their section, two points behind their German rivals.

Victory at the San Paolo on Tuesday would be a massive boost to Napoli’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages but De Laurentiis is taking nothing for granted against a free-scoring Bayern side who is currently five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Napoli’s form of late has been maddeningly inconsistent, with Walter Mazzari’s side having followed up a 3-0 win over Inter at San Siro just before the international break with a 2-1 defeat at home to Parma on Saturday evening.

De Laurentiis, though, is in no doubt that the Neapolitans are capable of upsetting the odds against the Group A leaders.

“Everything is possible in football,” he said. “The ball is round [and] we hope that [we] are on the ball."
