The info i got was that he did have on a bulletproof vest, he was hit in the unprotected area near the arm/shoulder. Due to the area they were in the only viable way out was by chopper but there was no open area to land, hence the 4 hr delay. Sadly the officer bled to death.

My condolences go out to his family.

Really disheartening to see something like this relegated to areas for secondary news reports and no attempt made to verify facts in the reports.

So nobody in the hierarchy has seen it fit to procure a chopper/ airlfting equipment that would be able to airlift a body if landing is impossible :|

the newsday reports what they feel like printing.......just a bunch of loonies working there IMO.

when i saw this on the news last night, it took me by surprise, cuz its been many years since i've heard of an officer being killed in the line of duty.

vests can only do so much....there are many places on your body (besides your head and neck), you can be shot, while wearing a vest, and die in a couple hours......i know of a case where a bullet hit, and was stopped, by the vest, but the broken ribs from the impact, punctured a lung......

Rest in peace.

Where the field was the chopper couldn't land, because it was too big. So they went back for another chopper which took over an hour to come back. Also vest or not, he got hit in the lower stomach so I'm sure the vest couldn't save him

RIP Officer.......

the death of this officer is a result of complacence and untrained personal in an unfamiliar environment compounded with lack of S.O.P, equipment and resources for a successful mission....

the procedure for a field raid is...

1. the army will do a recon of the area for 1 week prior to raid

2. on the morning of the exercise the army will do a 360 sweep with a heavy machine gun and grenades to remove any traps or combatants.

3. they will secure the perimeter and provide tactical/fire support for the police.

then the police will come in and do their work.

From the pics I can tell the officer has no bush patrol experience just by how his weapon is being carried.

wdh

Glad i never worked with you.

But i must admit the training of Police officers is not for this type of activity. Let the Regiment do the initial incursion.

Why do you say that? The footage from Viper says otherwise, the vest was unstrapped to the front but he was lying on it. If you have information to the contrary plz pm me, a lot of conflicting reports have been surfacing, one of which he was shot in the stomach or back. From what i saw it was to the shoulder area.

I was wondering the same thing. Especially having gone up against unknown targets in an unknown area.

A vest even against a shotgun blast should've offered some protection, having been shot in the abdominal area.

Either way, very very unfortunate. May he Rest In Peace.
