D15B 3stage vtec prob.

Postby hatch back snail » March 31st, 2010, 7:17 pm

Guys, i did a conversion a while back and i've been trying all sorts of things to get the engine running properly, idling bad, vtec working on and off etc.I heard about (1) changing the ecu i have (P2J) to P08 and (2) installing a vtec controller. Can anyone shed some light as to if either of the 2 will work?

Check your IACV. If you converted from auto to manual, you will need to change the IACV to the 2 wire IACV instead of your 3 wire.

Also check for a vacum leak in the IM. I didn't need to change my IACV in the same situation. Mechanic adjusted until it worked. You may not be so lucky though.

Low oil pressure/level, and failed vtec solenoid would be the 2 most common culprits. Another would be no speed signal going to the ECU, but I believe that would trigger a check engine light.

I had that prob and i just changed the speed sensor myself and its working perfect now.

P08 Ecu would not be able to activate the first vtec soloniod. Keep the
P2J unless you have a way in which you could work around this.
Installing a piggy back sometimes may eliminate your vtec problems
but may cover up more serious problems like low oil pressure.
And your poor idle maybe due to your idle valve to the back of the throttle body, it may just need servicing.

Thanks for all the info. guys,i had a real fun day  going from street concepts to autonation as well as other places .In the end finally got a diagnostic done to realise it was the TB sensor which had a too high voltage(1.79 V).Got the sensor changed (new .5 V) and well for now it looks like everything ok,no check engine light on,idling ok,vtec working. Thanks for all the help guys.
