Slow Poke before you do find someone who owns one that's at least two years old with some mileage. One thing that concerns me is the cost of maintenance (seeing that it's Mercedes Benz dealership).

cost of maintenance is about $8h-1k thus far according to the sales rep first is free next is every 5k km, when driven compared to other pickups its the most comfortable for me, it probably isn't the most good looking pick up out there, but then again most of the pickups are horrible looking machines, just look at the base"workhorse" models.......
but seeing as most of you, seem to advise on not getting one due to durability issues how many of you actually use your pick up truck laden all the time with goods to make such assumptions, have any of you actually driven the van to make comparisons, or are you just looking at things from a "oh well its no ranger hilux navara sportero" perspective, if so that argument seems quite baseless.
most fully laden pickups as far as i have observed maintain a see saw position with some the rear tyre seem to be touching at the back, and that is in the case of "fully laden" trays so in terms of being a "workhorse" i need not worry about that as i'm not into the hauling business.

The only limiting factor would be of course the cost and availability of parts, to which i am going to be forwarded dealers price listing

Durability is the ability to maintain structural integrity in spite of any difficulties (abuse) leveled at the vehicle.

Now, that said, loading up the truck to haul stuff is only a small part of the equation.

Just driving on Trinidad roads is a significant amount of abuse, I remember testing all most of the local trucks via broken pavement test to see which had prevalent squeaks and rattles new, because it would be 10X when the vehicle got a little age.

I drive quite aggressively, so the ability of the drive train components to survive my aggressive launches and occasional off-road excursions are another huge factor.

The ability of the engine to handle WOT due to my lead foot and our rancid diesel ...

Take all these things into consideration before your vehicle purchase. To me, the LAST thing you want is to have issues with a new vehicle. Personally, I would never buy a platform that new to the market, but you are not me, I'm just confused why you are so smitten with this vehicle, when there are so many other viable and proven alternatives ? Ranger, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota ...

One good thing coming out of all of this is that it's a low risk pickup i.e. the likelihood of it being stolen is 0.

well guys...... i got an update for you

Last Friday i took the wifey around to sterling motors cause i wanted to show her the ugly ass pickup cause she didnt know what i was talking about (mind you, just to show her how ugly it was, nothing more)
so we met the sales guy Christian and hats off to him we was the best salesman u dealt with for a long time, the guy knew his product and most questions were answered, also very cooperative
anyways

Interior
so the wife see the actyon and was "Wow i really like it" i was taken aback but we continued to check it out, not i must say this vehicle is very impressive, the version they bringing in is a automatic with 6FD tiptronic, 2.0L Turbo, its a ssangyoung engine utilizing Benz technology according to the sales rep.

Now the interior is really great its very comfortable and roomy and has a very high quality feel inside, (similar to a benz interior), it has a whole lot of features, audio and Transmission controls on the steering, pleanty other bells and wistles, alarms for everything, light on, seatbelt etc. it even has a singlasses holder in the hood. It comes with LSD, ABS, (Not sure about EBD), dual air bags and... FRONT AND REAR DISK BRAKES  )

what i didnt like about the interior, limited cup holders in front and none in the back.

The Exterior
Well we all know how the front looks but i saw the black and it actually not so bad in black, and i think if one can find a chrome grille or get thiers chromed somehow to replace the body paint grille it will look really good.
There is a built in SEMI duraliner from the factory which i idint like cause it dosent cover the whole tray and to me it's not durable, i think what happened is that the try is not dual wall and this duraliner thingy was just placed to block and protect the cavity so you still gonna have to install a proper bed liner, also there is no real bumper in the rear, it's like those american trucks otherwise it looks pretty solid and durable it also comming with Sidesteps, fogs and get this 18" factory alloys

What i didnt like about the exterior
-well the front of course is a bit weird althoug i must admit i growing on me
- the single lined construction on the tray
- no real rear bumper

So after checking out the actyon, and with my wife saying how much she likes it and that the front not ugly but rather posh we decided to take a test drive which we got on the spot and that was really nice seeing that you have to schedule a test drive at the other dealerships
so we on the road with the wife in the back, and the first thing i noticed is that the pickup is very powerfull and has a real sweet pulloff and acceleration, i havent driven anything else yet to compare but my foot heave and i was totally satisfied, the only thing was that when u mash there is a lil delay before it responds, now the sales guy said that was "turbo lag" and is normal with all pickups, now i dont know any better cause i new to deisel so i will wait to hear what you guys have to say on that
so this powerfully little 2.0 was much fun to drive we went up lady chancellor and it took the corners veery car like, no body roll, good traction, no tyre screaching etc the wife said she didnt feel anything on the corners and was quite comfortable throughout. this pickup also has plenty steering lock and its great for those busy roads in the city.
we also went down terra cita ave and i must say, although it was the first van i test drove, it was really impressed and satisfied by the performance, the pickup came up that entire incline in normal 4 X 2 mode without any hint of a struggle i didnt have to engage the 4WD the LSD kept the traction there was some wheel spin of course but very minimal and it was fun to feel the actyon's power.
On the way down, i gave the wifey to drive as it was auto and she found it really easy and fun to drive as well while i was quite comfortable i nthe back appart from being nervous that is my wife behind the wheel in those blind corners lol

What i didnt like about the drive
- the "Turbo lag" which is what the sales rep called it but i will have to find out more about this

All in All - i really loved this pickup i give it real props, i just wished it had an actual benz stamp on it or wished is was made by another well known dealer so i could buy off the bat without worrying about resale

On that note it is still an option to me despite the risk esp since the wife love it and it is auto so she can drive it too
the sales rep said they dont do trade ins but they assist you with getting your vehicle sold locally.

He also indicated that the first service is free
And the service intervals is 10Km and the average cost is about 2000-2500

PRICE
the actyon is goin for 196K and that package comes with bluetooth handsfree reverse mirror attachement, 32" sharp HD TV (for your home) and something else i cant remember right now
OR
you can opt to not get those things and the price is 186K just as well you can you can mix and match or pay the 196 and get it balance as cash back towards your insurance etc

i would really encourage some more people ot go look at this pickup and to test drive it too and come place your feedback here esp drivers who are experienced with deisel and pickups

HA HA HA HA HA ... Sorry but this was hilarious:

Lets be honest here, SsangYong don’t make pretty cars, infact, they make some of the ugliest cars on the planet. One after the other, SsangYong cars come out of the factory looking like they were put together by blind monkeys, they are simply just hideous. But then came along the Musso’s replacement, The SsangYong Actyon:

Image

You know what? I think after all that failed extermination, this car actually looks.. good! Yes I said it, a SsangYong which doesn’t make me feel ill when I look at it. I am looking forward to seeing the all new Actyon range at this year’s Brisbane Motor Show.

Actyon

Postby R Boodoosingh » October 6th, 2009, 8:29 pm

I have the Actyon about 1 year now and no probs what so ever, works really good compared to our Toyota Hilux and the service is alot better than Toyota they even come for the vehicle when its time for service if you want them to, at Toyota they claim to do things they dont do like,I payed for at the last service to torque back the suspension bolts so, I dident get time to underwash the van my mind tell me to look and see if they did any thing. I noticed that the bolts was un touched by a socket bcuz from all the days of mock gathering around the bolt heads wasent even cleaned., next thing I marked the sparkplug with a metal marker befor the service 8-) .After the service check out my new spark plugs but at toyota with they great service even put back the same mark on the new sparkplugs  never went back for a service at toyota again i do it my self.

Thats the only thing i dident like sombody locally puts on the soft tray covers and they drill through the van tray on top because the tray liner doesent cover the top, if I knew they was goin to do that I would have told them not to.

well its optional

without the bluetooth reverse mirror, the 32 HDTV and the tray cover it's 186K
Cheapest automatic on the market
i really wish i had less debts so i would be willing to take the risk of having a low resale then i would definately buy this

My biggest concern about SsangYong is that they went into receivership in Jan 09. Since then they've managed to get bankruptcy protection and approval for a restructuring plan but I'd still be nervous to buy a non-mainstream Korean car here if the parent company isn't on stable ground.

How has Sterling been in terms of parts availability and turnaround time?
