I dont think Rock Vibes should be existent in trinidad at all. Seeing that what ever vibes these bands put out are insults to the genre.

Orange Sky has been in the same spot they were 15 years ago. Nowhere. At least Machel Montano could sell out Madison Square Garden. When Orange sky can do that, ill say they Reach. Until then, they arent any better than Brown Fox.

Its not popuularity, but if the music had the vibes you so claim it has it would be able to penetrate a market that's not located in Chaguanas Trinidad and Tobago..

^why has your logic fooled you into thinking music is only good if it can penetrate a market, niche audience or remain bounded by a genre?

owning a couple guitars does not make you a musician, clearly.

wrong

sky has an upcoming tour in europe

why the slow pace?

1) coming from trinidad exposure is hard

2) try having a family and making arrangements to go on the road

I hate on rain on the orange sky parade, but their sound is generic. It always has been, and always will be, which is why they could never catch a break. They may be talented in your eyes, but throw them in a mix and they will get lost in the white noise.

No hard maths in that, any musician could tell you that a signature sound is the way to make it. If you sound like everybody else, you won't win. Case in point, Tripped and Fall-en off the face of the earth.

Im sorry but going to trinidad rock shows is like watching the tryouts for American Idol. In the end of the day, its a copy of the real thing.

Id be willing to bet that most of you Trinidad Local Rock scene defenders have yet to see a Real band on a large stage to experience the awesomeness that makes a good show. These gigs that the local bands do are no bigger than the open mic nights my band did when I was in college.

I rest my case.

There's more to it than a recorded album to make it big. Orange sky just doesn't have all of the elements.

and the flam that goes behind these BIG shows are owed to the band's promoters/ label's

what do you think? they pay for epic lighting and stage props out of their own pocket?

someone made a semi valid point wrt the jonas bros... they are commercial garbage and like so many today are huge simply because of promotion... enough hype and pics in mags are going to give the impression that they are "great"

so if its a matter of gracing the "big stage" i suppose britney spears and spice girls et al were all great musicians

for all the bashers i implore you to come out and do better with your profound skill and understanding of making great music

problem with finding artists on your "level"?

go solo, there are many great solo artists but hey if your so great you can always find musicians abroad that match your level of win

And this is the mentality with all Rock lovers in this country.

If your music is played on a radio station not endorsed by that insignificunt Mike Ross, then you are considered a Sell Out.

Man this whole cool to be Underground thing died with Kurt Cobain. in this day in age, and with the invention of the internets, no band can strive for being "underground" its no longer the cool thing to do. Sorry.

and who said anything about being "underground" IMO "staying underground" is an excuse because your music can't land a contract

but as stated earlier being (should i rephrase) popular doesn't mean your music is great

for eg look how "popular" black rose is (sorry was) locally and well they made money off of playing other ppl's music

horridly i might add

black rose = fail

popular why? cuz the those a$$holes R**Y et al made alot of money by hyping up cnuts to come see trinidad's number one cover band

look @ pop rock  it was ALL a ploy to make money. bands had to "conform" to certain "rules" ? wtf that was no concert it was a bloddy competition how sad is that? now i never said they claimed for it to be a concert but they did try oh so hard to make it seem so... it was the biggest local "rock" show, so ancorage saw ppl as far pt fortin to toco to witness this fcukery...

sadly enough many naive bands conformed to "competing" as they thought it was a way to making it somewhere... i remember all to clearly the BS they gave the MC's to say at every ancorage finals, always something to the effect "that there are many producers in the crowd here tonight"

oh yes i remember it too well... jerseys and spikes for sale money money money

but i still give it to the few bands who used the big turn out for exposure and fcuked away with this conformist "every band must play a soca song sheit" twas a opportune moment to get some fans but sadly most of em couldn't deliver

you see this here? This is the worlds smallest violin playing for all the closet emo kids who feel that making an industry out of rock music is a bad thing.

Your rant has to be the biggest emo rant I have seen on this forum in a while but you do realize that the reason Pop Rock forced trinidadian bands to play covers was solely because

Their original tunes weren't any good.

where was the support for "real" metal locally?

was pop rock ever about original music?

its was never about the original tunes it was about how many ppl they could get money from so they included this "mix" of music genres to compensate

95 the rock went to 95 the best mix

why? $$$$ 8)

still waiting for trinituner's greatest guitarist/musician to put his guitar pick where his mouth is

Yeah but bro, daz your opinion (which of course you're entitled to)...and by that why do you think you're raining on anyone's parade? Do you think YOUR opinion of them is going to influence MINE, or the rest of their fans for that matter?"

Ok, again to draw an analogy, to hopefully, a more mature and level-headed individual; I think Sean Paul's music sounds generic. No I will not go to one of his concerts, yes I will play it at a fete if I was to DJ at one, yes I MAY play it in my car (if I prolly like the bass line), no I don't understand 3/4 of what he's saying, yes I know he's currently on Rick Dees' top 40 and no I have no idea why. And of course he'll more than fill MSG for a concert.

Again, I respect your opinion, but hoss, at least they trying.....how many of these other local bands that others on this thread dote over can say that they do the same?

But yuh know, because I doh go to everyshow, not on the forums at islandnoisedotcom, and not in wid de in-crowd here, I does only fight down the local scene.

well...clearly you're not a drummer, and lol verily @ you thinking uber gear makes you awesomer :D

if you're versed at playing and the gear is crazy then the experience just heightens but i've heard some crazy pieces played on complete riff-raff equipment :|

oh oooo

and this is where emo sets in

sad thing really is that you have all this "great" gear and nothing to show for it

maybe you should have spent more money learning to play rather than buying epic guitars that you bring to shame for you audience of 5 @ live n loud

oh wait i thought ALL trinidadian musicians were shiddy but you go play with them?

Cjrukus the most talented and popular guitarist on.....

trinituner? or is it guitar hero?
