Late Night question..Building homes with shipping containers

Postby nos_specialist » August 7th, 2012, 12:49 am

So fellow tuners, what do you think on this topic.
i have been thinking about constructing a complete home with a couple used shipping containers, which of course would be carefully selected for use. (condition, and what is was used to transport)
However in our beloved country...is it:

Safe?, Legal?, cost effective....?

list your pros and cons ...

Where in the energy industry are shipping containers used as portacamps?

seems like a good idea, but i think things like expanding should be considered, is it long term or short term, cuz if long term, then expansion will need to be considered.

all in all, it seems like a good idea........

if u can or want to post details, it would be great info to add to the site!

You referring to the structure those people built with the set of containers and then the government stop them?

Had a former co-worker who did this, he still lives in it without complaints, teh exact logistics of it i am not aware of.

btw i think the 2009 incident referred to is the children in a container in teh port.

This has been done and approvals arent necessary seeing that they arent "permanent" structures in many parts of the country.
Logistics are simple.
Easy Maintenance.
Cut holes as required for HAVC, Plumbing, etc.
Stack front - back, up- down.
Biggest cost is aesthetics and thats optional.
Space planning is what need the thought to make it ergonomically habitable.
