Can’t talk for every field but yuh see lawyers. Oh guuuuuuud dem fellas piping. Too many lawyers and not like our legal system functions anyway so what’s the use ?

But there are a selected few who have too much work to handle. I dunno if the system is designed this way

Funny enough so many lawyers and cases on their hands yet most of our lawyers are politicians and who are not seek to enter politics, where do they get the time to focus on the country and their personal obligations

Because the chances of them giving you wrong info for a diagnosis is less.

Because the same reasons why we have nurse shortage but many nurses graduating , why we had a teacher shortage but many teachers graduating .


Mismanagement.
Why? Too easy a problem to solve to chalk it up to incompetence .

It seems like a deliberate purposeful intentional objective to cripple public services, as well as cause a brain drain to 1st world countries.

Lots of nuances but this is the simplified explanation. There are different levels of doctors;

Interns - A medical student (from UWI for example) gaining experience but not employed by the RHA.
House Officer - Diagnosing and administering general medical treatment. Refers to specialist care when required.
Registrar - Specialist care, supervises house officers and reports to the senior medical officer.
Senior Medical Officer (Consultants) - Advanced medical treatment, head of teams, supervisory roles, teaching, etc.

After internship, many doctors are unemployed as we have a surplus of house officers. Imported doctors are more registrars. It's "cheaper" to import specialist doctors, plus they less likely to challenge and complain.

Local doctors usually study in the UK to become specialists as most of the programmes not available locally. The cost of tuition and stay is either out of pocket or a scholarship sponsored by the regional health authority. Those scholarships decreased over the years, and the docs who pay out of pocket will go to where there is better pay to recoup... private.
