To my eye that looks like a high cube container. A high-cube container is 9.5 ft high vs. 8.5 ft for a standard. To make the maximum 13.5 ft vehicle height, it gets mounted on a low-profile trailer. A low-profile trailer has wheels that are smaller than the typical semi-tractor trailer.

It doesn't look like the driver did what he was supposed to do.

They ever care?
Most times they don’t lock all the latches, they only concerned with moving them containers quick.
They charge a significant amount of money when compared to the actual long ocean freight cost.

I believe you have a point. They usually don't.

I saw an oversize fuel tanker that struck a low overhead clearance highway bridge. The tanker caught fire after the driver escaped. The fire was so intense that the bridge had to be replaced at a cost of about US$10M. The driver said that he was in a hurry and didn't see the warning signs.

The reason they dont latch it is in case of an issue they dont want their trailers to capsize/twist and damage. They prefer the container just fall off

From the vid it seems the wetman was on the shoulder.
Can insurance brace his claim since he seemingly driving where he wasn't supposed to?

Might have to convert that to a Tiida Convertible. That whole roof mash up.

NIDCO or China Railway?

Time lost would be at the expense of the contractor through liquidated damages I assume

but wasn't the structure too low in the first place? It' was just a standard truck and trailer and container ..

Given the importance of the CRH I'm sure other container trucks passed before and after (the truss was back up by this morning) that particular truck with no worries. Something had to be amiss with that truck and its height

Trailer does look a little tall and with the truck raised, the front of the trailer was probably just above the 4.5m (14.75ft) height restriction. Should've dropped it down to pass the two overhead obstructions. Structure did it's job though, better that get hit than the scaffolding in place below the overpass.

Quoting myself from earlier in the thread. So they're aiming for at least 4.9 m vertical clearance?
https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/geometric/p ... arance.cfm
*5.1 meters for sign trusses and pedestrian overpasses.

maj. tom wrote:USA Interstate standard for all of USA codes for 4.9 meters vertical clearance. UK is 5.03 meters vertical clearance.
BC Canada has 5.0 meters. Alberta is 5.5 vertical clearance.

The maximum height for a vehicle in Ontario is 4.15 meters. Road vehicles in the UK are usually less than 4.5 m tall.

Apparently no set international exact standard. But it should be 5.0 meters for good measure.

Everybody blaming the driver, but he didn't have a choice . They put the barrier in a place where there is no detour or any other option. They could have put it just after the opening where the no U-turn sign is so the truck would have an option to turn right and go back west. Probably pass on the main rd or through Kelly. The only choice he had was to reverse to Valsayn North second entrance. Try doing that with a trailer.

Anybody see how it was cut and welded back with short pieces of steel reinforcing the weld?

That span is to wide for that type of steel. Its starting to sag already and will get pull down if it doesn't fall first.

i think i saw a sign saying 4.5m clearance on that bridge.

unless i imagined that.

and the bridge looks definitely lower than the walkovers. why make it lower? that make no sense.
