The only way I could see Trinis riding up and down a distance as great as d bus route is if ebikes became available tax free AND gas/diesel went to $8/litre.

Actually you should be able to clear ebikes without paying duty and tax. Would have a grey area whether they need to be registered and get insurance for the road though.

No one is asking you to be a lemming, but instead maybe just make an informed decision based on the facts laid out towards you?

Fossil fuels are harming the environment.
Vehicles with poor/mediocre miles per gallon are a main contributor to this.
Utilization of hybrids allows you to get much more miles per gallon.

All I am saying is if you believe in a cause, at least come across as if you know enough to defend your position, this kind of lazy, illiterate utterances cannot command an educated audience!

That is a bit of false equivalency... How can you predict how something will sell if the conditions under which the items were sold are different.

They might not have sold so many hybrids if they had taxes and duties on them in the first place.

As for the actual thread title, this is why I look at diehard political party supporters with disdain and even a little disgust. How can Imbert even BEGIN to speak on what the State has 'lost' through tax waivers..when they benefit from ridiculous tax breaks themselves? If it was really a matter of doing what's best for the nation's coffers, why not apply it from pillar to post? One thing both the Gov't and Opposition agreed on was to not touch their benefits. But the citizens that actually finance the politicians benefits? Nah, firetruck them. 'Tek it way' as my Tobagonian friend says.

This revelation or whatever it was is just another slap and a hawk of spit in the face of the average citizen, as they attempt to widen the gap between the haves and the have-nots.

Misdirection at it’s best. Arrest 2 UNC senators and while they are busy looking the other way work on EBC and make up a false reason for being there..... to change the name of constituencies.

You would think that since the government is pushing CNG as an alternative fuel that they would set the example for the rest of the population. Rowley should have been moving in a CNG fuelled Mercedez Benz at the least. I wonder what Franklin Khan drives? Anyone knows?

Does Imbert Mustang count? Is a hybrid between a car most Trinis may like, and one they'll never be able to own. Thanks to Imbert, we could at least see one.

Different perspective, same argument. Excellent points. I really wish the majority of the population had the brain to analyze things like this, but instead the 'PNM till ah dead' or 'UNC till ah dead' mentality prevents people from realising that the institutions that are pushing certain programs, don't even use these programs themselves..

And how much did we lose by way of tax exemptions on vehicles for politicians and their lackeys over the decades? Also, how much did we actually lose by having to pay for legal costs because of idiotic decisions these politicians and state representatives made that ppl had to seek legal redress for in the courts over the years?

doesn't hybrid cars cut down on gas consumption and therefore the subsidy bill the govt has to pay?

The man complain about "losing" 350 mil, if public transport is fixed they will "lose" much more.

They may save money if they deal with inmates more efficiently (rather than close down plants), I remember Akash Samaroo saying that each inmate costs the state $20,000.00/mth. A lot of people not even making $5,000.00/mth. Crime is definitely draining our country in every possible way and the Pandy led UNC was the only government that had a handle on it IMHO. Maybe that is why that government could have built so many schools, police stations, bridges, an airport and still thief money with oil at $20/ barrel.
I would say that this whole Vincent Nelson expose is an insight into how the treasury is depleted in plain sight.

The Umpa Lumpa plan was for more people to purchase CNG vehicles and once sufficient persons had CNG vehicles, He was going to put the shaft on the population by raising the price of CNG.

The current tax exemption is on hybrids with less than 1600ccs.

It all boils down to miles per gallon and the hybrid drivetrains outperform ice only ones consistently.
