Acceptable lifespan for average car battery!

Heat and vibration are the main contributors to shortened life span of batteries. Improper charging and build up of sulphur on the plates will also shorten the lifespan. Proper reconditioning and removal of sulphur from the plates will extend the lifespan. A trickle charger will not remove the sulphur from the plates due to its charging method. A pulse charger helps release the sulphur from the plates. Keep in mind all lead inside the batteries are recyclable to make new batteries. The main problem i have seen in trinidad is that monst people buy the wrong battery for the application. Either because it was cheaper or given wrong advice from a someoene who just wanted a sale. Diesel engines require a higher cca rating than a gasoline. Vehicles with engine upgrades and higher under bonnet temperstures may also require a heat wrap to reduce the heat transfer from the engine/turbo to the battery case. Boats require a battery designed for higher shock/vibration than a vehicle.

Fellas is there a problem installing a bigger battery than what is recommended in a car? I always do it but I make sure that it's clamped properly and there is enough room between the hood and terminals so as not to bun dong the car. The battery in my Matrix went dead and it requires a specific battery mainly cuz of the clamping arrangement but I put a 13 plate 730 cca and fabricated a clamp for it. The parts place I brought it from said I shouldn't do that cuz is too much current for the car lol. Sounded like b.s. to me...

I got 37 months from the original battery my Lancer came with from the firm - That's the most I ever got from a battery.

and it would be nice to hear more about the longevity of:

Rocket batteries from Laughlin & De Gannes
PowerMaster/Turbo/UltraPower/Miatsu batteries from Massy ACL
Track batteries from Lange Trinidad

I wanna help out the local businesses and support local but if the final consensus is, they're all rubbish then I have no choice but to contribute to the country's forex woes and consider AC Delco which is General Motors, a US company like DieHard and Interstate, then there's Bosch which is a German company and Yuasa being Japanese.

Rocket is usually 2 1/2 years (30 months). Had experience with two and on a third which approaching the 30 month mark on my car. The discharging is quite sudden so you only have a 2-3 days to change the battery once you notice the vehicle not tumbling properly.

Heard good reviews on XS batteries so will go with them.

I bought a Rocket to replace the battery that came with my 1st car (a cs3 Lancer roro)
The Rocket lasted 18 months and 2 weeks on an 18 month warranty. I replaced with an ACL maintenance free battery however sold the car 2 months later so not sure about how long the ACL one lasted. It did however come with a 24 months + 8 months (prorated) warranty.

In my current vehicle (Tucson) I got an ACL Power Master as a replacement for the original battery but this was free as the original was still under warranty. The replacement lasted 14 months and I replaced with another ACL Power Master due to it being the best priced of all when I called around. This was in Sep 2018.
Has an 18 month warranty on it but I hope it gets much more.

I recently changed a rocket in my hilux,
was almost 2 years old and was just about beginning to give a slight lazy start
a load meter confirmed this. I replaced it with one of them alpha battery, will see how that goes.
I do at least 4-6 starts per day and drive with ac

The original Toyota GS battery from 4 years ago did the same when I replaced it after 2 years
but it still good, have it stored and used a few times to jump start ppl.

My OEM Hyundai battery lasted 1 year of use ( just under 3 years from manufacture) in a diesel taxi which apparently is good service. Speaking with other drivers 8 months is the norm apparently, currently using an Atlas maintenance free bought from Target Trading for the last 14 months

Turbo, 3 years so far in my navara (still going) with a 3-4000 rms daily system
Northstar 4 years and was going when I sold my wingroad 1200 rms system
XS never gave me anything more than 2 years sadly

Best battery I ever had were the old school optima batteries, 5+ years and going full on in a crv, everything stock

I'll always advise against those batteries sadly because of terrible voltage dropping in a couple of family cars, not sure if we had bad batches but 3 of them were sheit. And I won't support that company after some shady stuff they doing with products

Interestingly I have their batteries in 4 of my vehicles currently ranging from 1to 3 years at present. Looking for recommendations for the diesel van in particular when it's time to replace, van starts an average 8 times daily

varies according to use, battery location, vehicle charging system etc
Heat is a killer of batteries....cars where the battery is in the path of radiator fan air or exhaust tend to kill batteries faster than cars with batteries up against the firewall, under rear seat etc
Been using price smart batteries for years now with no complaints

I had a Rocket battery for a Diesel Hilux for 30 months. This was the second Rocket Battery I have owned. The previous one lasted 27 months. Bought it all from Laughlin & De Gannes. I do quarterly checks at Laughlin for the battery. However last month, being proactive I changed it out to a Track Battery from Lange as I was uneasy of the battery going dead on me in some unsafe location. The technician at Lange said I could have kept till it died. I do not want to wait till that happens.

Quick update... got the lazy start beginning yesterday and corrosion buildup on the negative pole which is a first. Rocket battery lasted close to 3 years (34 months).
