Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young is the new Communications Minister.

The Office of the Prime Minister made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

“Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley has advised President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency Paula Mae-Weekes to appoint the Honourable Stuart Young as Minister of Communications in addition to his current portfolio. This means that the Honourable Marlene Mc Donald is now the Minister of Public Administration.”

This follows the recent Cabinet reshuffle in April, in which Maxie Cuffie, who has been in recovery since suffering a stroke last September was demoted as Minister of Public Administration and Communications and replaced by Marlene Mc Donald.

Cuffie was reassigned as a Minister in the Ministry of Public Administration and Communications - Junior Minister to McDonald.

In less than a year, state owned Petrotrin spent more than TT$63 million in consultancy fees when it engaged the services of 16 consultants.

The exact sum TT$63,610,158.33 was spent from July 1st 2017 to date.

The figures were revealed in Parliament by Energy Minister Franklin Khan in response to a question posed by Point a Pierre MP David Lee.

“To spend 63 million dollars in less than 11 months on only16 consultants is quite an incredible feat especially when for the past two and a half years this government has routinely spoken on the poor financial health of the state company,” Mr Lee said.

“What is even more worrying is the fact that the company recorded a loss of TT$2.2 billion dollars in 2017 yet still spent this significant sum on consultancy fees,” he added.

“When one reviews the payments to consultants we see that one firm was paid 28 million for "Company strategic review and transition" yet up to this day the Government has not been up front with the nation on Petrotrin's true state of affairs as well as what this "so called transition" would include.

“Petrotrin remains a key asset in our nation's economic and social framework therefore it is critical that any money spent by this entity is met with equivalent returns that can propel and improve the position of the company,” Mr Lee said in a statement.

Frowley saying "for the next general election he will outline how they helped T&T for the last five years and how this government is the best thing out"...this MC actually said those words....then he saying this PNM government is the glue that is keeping the country together...my lord

Finance Minister Colm Imbert is once again hitting back at economists.

Speaking at a PNM rally last evening in Barataria, Minister Imbert says the government has collected more money in tax than initially projected but the economists are not accepting the figures.

Last month, Minister Imbert criticised five economists saying they were unfair and biased when commenting on how the government is managing the economy.

And on the energy front, the Finance Minister says that while gas production is up, the government is yet to see the returns.
