A criminal suspect was shot dead this morning when he held up patrons of a bar in St Helena.

The thief was shot 12 times and died at hospital, police said.

His alleged accomplice – a 24 year old Santa Cruz woman – was detained by the victims and arrested by police.

At around 1 a.m. a man and a woman entered BJ's bar at Madras Road and announced a hold-up.

The two robbed patrons of thousands of dollars' worth in cash, jewellery and cell phones.

Police said an off duty officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard who was liming at the bar pulled out his firearm and opened fire on the man.

The thief was shot multiple times in the upper body.

Officers of the Caroni Police Station and Central Division Task Force responded and the thief was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope.

He was pronounced dead on arrival.

An officer responding to a home invasion in Gopaul Lands was shot by assailants this evening.

PC Ramsaran was said to have sustained a "through and through" bullet wound to his torso as he was wearing his Bullet Proof vest.

Two assailants were reported to have been killed and one escaped.

For those who insist on politicizing crime, we had a past Prime Minister who threw his hands in the air and the inability of that party to deal with crime. Another that staged a state of emergency as a means to "deal with crime. Another who meet with "gang leaders" in the Port of Spain area. Crime is not a political problem it is a social problem. Informer fi dead is a bad postulation , a very wrong one depending on who you are. Crime cannot be solved without public information.

Two men dead as police foil robbery

Two men were shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with police officers at La Puerta, Diego Martin, near Broome Street.

A third man who survived serious injury is now under police guard at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

Reports revealed that shortly after 12.30 pm officers of the Western Division received information that three men in a vehicle were on their way to carry out a robbery.

Officers responded to the report and saw the suspects in the vicinity of Broome Street.

Police sources say they called on the driver to bring the vehicle to a stop but the occupants reportedly fired at officers who returned the fire.

Police recovered three guns and a quantity of ammunition and are still on the scene.

The murder count thread is being updated everyday, we just had the highest amount of murders recorded in a single month in this country, and for the entire month of January, not one post in "bandit killed". Seems like the bandits knew something about law enforcement routines, cycles or habits that we don't.

A police officer sustained a bullet wound to his left instep and a suspect in a robbery fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire between the police and assailants around 12:10pm on 25.04.28 at Pierre Street, Enterprise Chaguanas.

The police were in search of suspects linked to the robbery of a Chinese restaurant at Eleanor Street around 10:00am on the same day.

They went to a house at Pierre Road where they were greeted with gunfire by the occupants.

In the exchange, one suspect was fatally shot and an officer wounded. Police are searching for a suspect who escaped.

POLICE killed three robbers on Friday.

The three were allegedly among a gang of four men suspected of hijacking a cigarette salesman at Todd’s Road, Caparo and robbing him of $80,000 in cigarettes.

The thieves also stole a security officer of a firearm.

Within hours of the robbery, Central Division police tracked the suspects’ vehicle in and confronted them at Fitt Trace in Talparo.

Police said the suspects shot at them and the officers returned gunfire.

The injured were taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where they died.

A fourth person was arrested and taken into police custody.

Police have identified one of the deceased as Kadeem Welch, who many outstanding warrants for various firearm related offences including shooting at police.

The robbery took place at around 10 am at Papa James Mini Mart at Todd’s Road where the salesman was conducting sales out of his Nissan Navara.

Also with the salesman was an armed security guard.

A white Nissan Tiida pulled alongside and four men with firearms emerged and announced a hold up.

The forced the owner of the mini mart, the sales man and an armed men to the ground and robbed the truck of its sales.

Police were told that one of the men drove off with the sales truck and the others sped off in the Nissan Tiida.

Officers of the Central Police Division were contacted and Sgt Jodhan and Cpl Bagoo responded.

Police found the Nissan Navara abandoned at La Gloria Road, off Todd’s Road.

It had been broken into with a grinder.

The vehicle was towed to the Longdenville Police Post for forensic examination.

Police said officers continued to search for the suspects and around 2 p.m. the Nissan Tiida ws was spotted at Fitt Trace off Todd’s Station Road, Talparo where the suspects and police exchanged gunfire.

A police constable was injured, but his injuries were not firearm related, police said.
