Information Bulletin
Date: Monday 11th of September 2017
ISSUED AT: 06:45 AM
INCLEMENT WEATHER EXPECTED TODAY AND INTO
TOMORROW Trinidad, and to a much lesser extent
Tobago, has been experiencing cloudy conditions
with periods of showers. Some of these showers
have been heavy, thundery and accompanied by gusty
winds over Trinidad. This rainfall activity is due
to an active ITCZ traversing the area. Similar
conditions are expected throughout today and into
tonight and will continue into tomorrow due to the
presence of the ITCZ which is being enhanced by
favorable upper level conditions in the
atmosphere. Widespread light to moderate
rain/showers can be expected with the 60% chance
of heavy showers or thundershowers. These showers
are expected to persist into tomorrow with gradual
improvement by late afternoon. Localized street
or flash flooding is likely in heavy or prolonged
downpours and gusty winds may also be experienced
in the vicinity of heavy showers or
thundershowers. Landslides/landslips are also
possible in hilly areas. Please note that, due to
the showers experienced overnight and into this
morning, the likelihood of flooding and landslides
is increased. Please be alert to the possibility
of electrical discharges from
thunderclouds. Given the forecast inclement
weather conditions, Citizens are advised to be
vigilant and cautious as they conduct their
activities. Visit our website at
www.metoffice.gov.tt, download our mobile app
(search: TT Met Office) and follow us on Facebook
and Twitter. The TTMS is reminding citizens that
we are in the rainy season and adequate
preparations must be made to preserve life and
property against adverse weather conditions.
WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT AT THIS TIME
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL
CYCLONE THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING. The TTMS
will continue to closely monitor this weather
event and will issue another bulletin if the
situation warrants.
