I know someone traveling on a direct flight from ny to piarco today. the flight was diverted to Florida for a few hours.
I'm guessing they couldn't take an an alternate flight path that wasn't thru Irma?

Kinda expecting a alien ship to come down and broad cast a message. "Humans of earth, this is just a warning. Get rid of trump, stop killing the environment, stop the religious wars and senseless killing or else we will return and finish this great purge."

Anguilla is a total mess as well.

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation- ... 93557.html

5:35 a.m.

Authorities say at least one person has died in the northeast Caribbean island of Anguilla, raising the death toll of Hurricane Irma to at least 10 as the Category 5 storm roars through the region.

The Caribbean Disaster Management Agency reported the death early Thursday and said 90 percent of roads in Anguilla are impassible.

France's Interior Minister, Gerard Collomb, told Franc Info that at least eight people have died and another 23 were injured in the French Caribbean island territories of St. Martin and St. Barthelemy. That number is expected to rise.

In Barbuda, a 2-year-old child was killed as a family tried to escape a damaged home during the storm.

Authorities are struggling to get aid to small Caribbean islands devastated by the storm's record 185 mph (298 kph) winds.

PLANTATION, Fla. - A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for Broward County residents living east of Federal Highway and in low-lying areas effective Thursday.

Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief said Wednesday that 14 shelters will open Thursday at noon. She said all county operations will close at the end of the day and will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.

Those who choose to go to shelters are asked to bring items to make themselves comfortable, including bedding, snacks, water and their medications.

T&T sends helicopter crew to Antigua/Barbuda
Published on Sep 7, 2017, 10:37 am AST

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has been communicating with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda with respect to the devastation suffered in Barbuda as a result of Hurricane Irma.

In a statement form the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday, the Government agreed to provide assistance to Antigua and Barbuda by providing a helicopter and crew for the period of a week to directly contribute to the provision of relief and aid for Barbuda.

"The Government has carefully considered the current difficult economic circumstances and despite these difficulties, because it recognizes the responsibility of helping our CARICOM neighbour in this time of disaster and need, it has agreed to provide this specific assistance".

Barbuda, the smaller of the two islands in the eastern Caribbean, sustained damage to about 95 percent of all properties, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said on Wednesday.

Aerial footage showed destroyed homes and businesses and at least one person, a two-yearold child, was killed in Barbuda.

“I felt like crying. But crying will not help” said Browne.

Death toll rises to 13

Hurricane Irma killed three people as it battered Puerto Rico, with a 79-year-old woman, a younger woman, and a man among the fatalities.

In a statement, governor Ricardo Rossello said that the elderly woman, who needed assistance moving, died after a fall en route to a shelter. A younger woman died in Camuy, on the north-west coast of the island, from electrocution in her home, and a man died from a traffic accident in Canóvanas, in the north-east.

Eight others were reported killed in French St Martin, as well as one person in Anguilla and an infant in Barbuda.

Still hoping that the mayhem will not continue, already its real difficult to see poorer, smaller countries being subjected to this horror.
People are going to have to come together to help each other to easy the pain and grief.
Its always difficult to understand mother natures plan, when the already weak keep getting blows.
Funny thing is some entities are going to make a lot of sales from this misfortune.

Smaller yes but in reality a number of those territories aren't really poor.
So far Irma has struck Antigua and Barbuda (their GDP per capita is only $1000 less than ours)
St Martin, Anguilla and St Barts - territories of France, UK and Netherlands
BVI - territory of UK
and Puerto Rico - maybe the poorest of the lot (but still US territory eligible for federal aid)
