B13 car thief shot dead by police

Police shot dead a suspected car thief in an exchange of gunfire in Tacarigua on Wednesday.

The suspect, who is yet to be identified, and another man were intercepted by officers responding to a report of a stolen vehicle at around 2a.m.

Police said the purple Nissan B-13 car was spotted near St Michael's Road when the officers attempted to stop the vehicle.

Investigators said the occupants opened fire on the officers who responded.

One of the men was struck and collapsed inside the vehicle.

The second man ran out and escaped.

Police said a firearm was seized inside the car.

A manhunt has been launched for the second suspect.
