Robbed 4 times, beaten near death, businessman arrested for gun possession
A BUSINESSMAN who kept an unloaded gun in a kitchen cupboard to scare off would be bandits was yesterday fine $12,000 for illegal possession.
Jason Ragoo told San Fernando senior magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine that he was robbed four times in the past at his home. It was said that on the last occasion he sustained injuries which were “close to life threatening”.
Police prosecutor Sgt Denzil Alexander said that based on information, police officers executed a search warrant at Ragoo's home at La Fortune, Woodland. Ragoo admitted to the officers from the Southern Division Task Force that he had a gun on a shelf in a wooden cupboard in the kitchen.
The gun, a Walter P99, was found in a brown bag on the shelf. Ragoo told officers, “Right in this apartment I got robbed. Is a long time I have that just for my protection, to scare them off when they come.”
He was taken to the Penal police station where he was charged.
Defence attorney Dexter Bailey told Antoine that his client was the owner of a bar in Woodland for the past 14 years. He said Ragoo, 44, assisted his community and hosted a treat at Christmas time.
Bailey also said Ragoo had no previous convictions.
The attorney said that last year his client was robbed four times.
“The last time he was beaten severely and received close to life threatening injuries.”
Bailey said the gun was not found in a public place and there were no bullets.
“His intention was not to cause harm,” he said.
Antoine said that while there was the temptation to have a gun, it was not the best option. “I don't believe people should go around arming themselves because of the crime situation in the country. It could lead to other things.”
She also said she had concerns over people renting guns which were then used in the commission of crimes. Bailey assured this was not the case in this instance.
Antoine fined Ragoo $12,000. He said it could be paid in 14 days. Should this not be done, he will face three years hard labour.

Maybe if you were robbed and beaten near death you'd understand the fear this man has. Have you ever been robbed? Or beaten near death?

this man will soon be dead. and i hope she remembers she tied his hands and made him defenseless to criminal attackers.
i find if that happen they should charge the judge for aiding and abetting.
