Sure right..
Had a tree across some HV lines, broken insulators and a fallen pole.
In no time all that was fixed. They out as early as I was.

Basically around CAL between the two lights has water; and Golden Grove Road towards the old airport.

Also there's water on the Caroni south bank road, on the stretch after Econo before SMR roundabout.

While i admit i too was a bit excited at first it changed a bit to worry as the Met Office maintained the warning and i saw the satellite image of the storm directly on us and winds picking up.
But it was only a storm with 40mph (65kph) winds- a minimal storm. A Tropical Storm has to have a minimum 39mph sustained wind (not even talking about higher gusts) but can have up to 72mph or 115kph wind! (73mph upwards it becomes a hurricane).

What if the winds were like 60mph? U know how many ppl could be without roofs now?

So Trinidad was still very lucky in that respect

Basically, I would say that bret showed us the MAXimum force that this country can handle and be able to recover quickly. I would even say, very well calculated. Anything stronger and longer and the repairs could rise into the billion dollar region which we don't want to afford right now. That was just a lil shake up, a small excitement we get to keep us on our toes. but frankly I sure ppl don't want to be facing that more than once for the year.

Hence I suggest also river bank clearing operations before a storm. And a prime ministerial highlight on littering along the riverbanks as part of the culture of river limers who don't properly clean up after themselves.

what concerns me is this fella shifted south at the last moment...normally they would be far north, driving up to barbados etc and miss us almost entirely. ...curious to know what conditions caused the movement in the opposite direction

The gulf forces pretty much battered it downward and it had to fight thru those forces to head back north as the physics require. What may be more concerning is that magnetic flux seems too have shifted in alignment with trinidad.. so other storms forming far east may travel the same path towards us until those lines change.. they may have changed already, or might stay that way for the whole season bringing more storms.

Bret followed the itcz . When it hit Trinidad, it was still weak and would follow the energy, which was the energy Columbus channel .

As the itcz drifts north , we well go back to seeing them veer northward, generally.

I seem to remember a weather report last week which advised that there was a 'jet stream' just north of us which would have served to squeeze Bret south since that feature acted as a severe limiting condition which seemed to set a boundary line.
This particular report coupled with the fact that at this time the ITCZ hasn't fully made its migration north did cause me to recognize a very strong likely-hood that the final northern detour wasn't really on the cards.

Anything stronger than 50mph winds and we would have had to board up windows. Also hurricane straps is a good idea too

However, listening to her tonight: she indicated that the area where Bret originated there are 3-6 systems with two having the potential to reach hurricane status...in other words, pray hard

we need to archive the data from this storm somewhere so we will remember- so when a next storm name Bret come around we go watch out
