Ballistics test on a Shotgun?????

Postby Hyperion » March 4th, 2017, 9:42 am

Article in today's Express Saturday 4th.

Ballistic tests to be done on shotgun seized in Diego raid

Ballistic tests are to be performed on a shotgun which was seized on Wednesday night in Patna Village, Diego Martin.

The weapon was seized at about 10.30 p.m. by a team of officers from the Western Division Task force, including Sgt Arneaud, Cpl Dominque, PC McClean, PC Gilkes, PC Murray, PC Harris, PC Thompson, PC Peters, PC Boban, and WPC Matthews, among several others.

Acting on information received from members of the public, the officers made their way to an abandoned lot of land along Fuller Street, Patna Village, where they conducted a search.

They found a homemade shotgun, which was loaded with one round of 12-gauge ammunition.

The weapon was seized and is to be sent to the Forensic Science Centre in St James to undergo ballistic testing to determine if it can be linked to reports of criminal activities involving the use of firearms.

No one was arrested in the exercise.

A shotgun is not a pistol or rifle with a rifled barrel. What kind of ballistics test can be done on a shotgun? Can they compare the spent cartridges for the hammer impression?

The hammer impression would only be usful if they have shells from another shooting..it didnt look like a pump action so there is no extractor marks
But then what?

What remains at the crime scene?
The shell -hammer and extractor markings

pellets-maybe sample from inside the barrell???

It seems a far fetch, but could add some info to make links.

Only thing they can realistically use wld be the hammer impression on a shell which wld have to be fired then compared to what they got in their database.

It was a homemade shotgun, the hammer is a filed nail. It would leave a specific impression.

The article failed to mention that ballistic testing is just one of several tests undertaken with seized firearms.

But of course the op runs with the info in the article and cyaks line a big cyat.

How do you feel op, good about yourself?

I feel excellent, how do you feel knowing that you are part of the most inefficient, ineffective and corrupt organisation singly responsible for the crime situation in the country? Pity you couldn't put some of that fervor and effort into something useful.

I merely asked a question relative to a news article, and I got a typical police reaction, smh.

I feel like a real tuner now.

You spelt tuntun wrong.
Might be autocorrect, I can see how it might mistake tuner with tuntun.
