Kronik wrote:Also something to take note of with units now, many of them are not coming with high/low pressure switches (cost saving measures), if your gas is low, the compressor continues to run with insufficient gas and overheats and eventually burns out when the insulation from the windings melt out

Compressors now come with thermal protection.

Bigger units (3 tonne and up) I've seen pressure switches on.

I have a question here if I am replacing my 12K BTU split, with a 9K, will the original brackets work? will it fit? will new holes need to be drill etc?

And does courts do free install for the 9K mastertech?

Anyone knows where a replacement AC remote for a Panasonic unit can be purchased?

If not, then I suppose a universal remote will have to suffice.

Anyone used the universal remotes already? Thoughts on it?

Here nah, brackets usually come with the unit. If the hole spacing is the same, just shift one and chill.
If you paying x amount for an ac unit and not getting brackets....well boy....

Presently using a universal and it works good, code has to be entered only when battery is changed so recommend writing code on your unit when confirmed working.

Need to install a 12k and 36k.

Installers have Lennox, Amana, Miller, Delta, Daikin and Green Energy. All at comparable prices, non inverter and 410 gas. Every installer says theirs is better.

Any advice on which brand is sticker and which not, parts availability, noise etc? Should i get the reguular generic Comfee etc?

How green energy make it to that list?
I think all the rest are pretty good choices.

Thats the brands they carry so i just repeating.

Most of those brands have been around a while but i know some are now just generic based on this thread.

I not sure about the delta but it carries decent warranty. As of late in not sure about the Lennox as rumor states it's a copy of the gree and it's a good unit. Gree gives 1 year warranty and Lennox gives 5 years though.
All the rest are pretty decent brands as fat as I know.
Ge is a budget brand but out here properly so I assume it have the world of parts and maybe actually good.

Even though the Lennox gives 5 year warranty, you need to find out how long the life cycle is for a manufactured model, meaning if they will have replacement parts later on, was told about that problem and know a couple ppl who got trouble to get parts after 3 1/2 years

Maharaj and servair usually has a lot of stuff in stock. But models change every so often.
It is possible to ratch fit parts though

So after doing some research and getting some hands on experience with an inverter heat pump / ac unit i can confirm the compressors do not have dc motors.

My Miller split unit made 12 years in February of this year and apart from regular servicing there has only been one instance where a capacitor (I think that's what the tech called it) needed changing. The part didn't even cost that much.

This unit could take jamming and still work real good with quiet running.

These older miller units were built like tanks
