Sand Paper Question

Postby JF.K » May 28th, 2016, 10:20 am

I have a vehicle with a few rust spots.
The spots are surface rust though and not holes.
I think the rust formed from the paint flaking out in some places.

I am presently saving for a paint job but I want to just probably touch up these few spots before it gets worse.

So I wanted to know what type of sand paper to buy just to rub out the surface rust from these spots before I touch it up. Thanks.

for a quick fix ,i would suggest starting with a 100 grit dry and work up to a 320 dry then clean and touch up with an etch primer and then some paint .

Aye thx man...

Noob Question here:
Am I just asking the hardware for
'100 grit dry'...
or they have another (local) name for it?

Also... is that etch primer available like a 'bomb spray'?

Madness. 100 is way too harsh if it's just surface rust use 700 or higher and wet sand not dry.

There is no 700 grit paper. Op go to the paint shop, not hardware. Use100 dry rub production paper to clean out the loose paint and rust, followed by 150,do not use wet as it will cause more rusting. Spray with an aerosol red oxide primer, nor even brush on some red or grey oxide.Sand it with 400 and then 800 grit wet or dry paper. You can spray some touch up paint on it or, if you don't have acess to a compressor, buy a Preval paint kit and spray on some paint
