It was only after they were able to rid the Moors that they started the American conquest. The Spanish never considered themselves to be pure Caucausians because as the most Southerly European country they always had a North African influence.

Therefore when they came to the New World it was not frown upon, as was in British colonies,s for Spaniard to have indigenous or African wives or concubines. Peru and Mexico got more slaves than the US but those African ancestors are so mixed into society that the are indiscernible especially in Mexico but in US Africans were kept segregated up until recently.
