Local Cumaca ~ Quarrying

To date no quarry owner in Trinidad & Tobago has ever been prosecuted

Less than an hour’s drive from Valencia Junction on the road to Toco, is Cumaca, a rich bio diverse rainforest, frequented by nature enthusiasts for its rivers, waterfalls, wildlife and its famous cave system.

In the middle of the rainforest you can also find… several poorly managed quarries.

These companies destroy public infrastructure and environment while, extracting your countries natural resources… and while they get rich you and your children will have to bear their cost.

As of March 19th 2012, all quarries require a CEC. Upon investigation we found that one of the 3 sites shown here is completely illegal, having no clearance approval

"Drag and wind" is a fairly unique sport in which they combine Drag racing and autocross to form a sport that tests both man and machine's capabilities. It was started in Trinidad by Autosport Promotions and is a hit with many there. Last year, they brought this sport to the sister isle, Tobago as part of the Motormaniacs: Wings and Wheels event... and boy did they deliver.

This fruit as a “small, pinkish fruit about the size of a big plum” and its fruit is “usually flushed pink colour but they can be white or purple.”

Tea made from its leaves is reported to help control diabetes type II while a tea from its bark may help kidney ailments

Local Tobago Puppy ~ Muraco: A Dumped Puppy Who Found Love - 2

Approximately 2 months ago she was a ratty-looking creature in need of a loving 'forever home'.

When I took her in to foster her, I anticipated having her for only a few days. In the weeks that followed, despite many cute photos and videos, no one in TT seemed interested in adopting this sweet pup.

I didn't mind, as it was impossible not to fall in love with her and want to keep her for as long as possible. Even though her and Veenie's 'fans' begged for me to adopt her, I knew all along that I couldn't (as a tenant who can only have one dog where I am right now). I said to the Universe: "If I really can't keep her, please find her an owner/owners just as loving as me and Veenie . . . or even more loving (if possible)."

Meanwhile, an animal-loving US couple (who had adopted a Tobago pup on their visit here and taken her back) were sharing Muraco's photos/videos in the event that one of their friends would be interested in her.

That day came—about two or three weeks ago. A loving family based in the US expressed interest in Muri. When I heard the description of this family I bawled my eyes out . . . because they sounded so ideal that I knew this was 'it'. I resisted for a while, but it was clear that the Universe had answered my request and sent these lovely people for Muri.

In about a month from now (after she gets her rabies shots and is micro chipped) Muri will be flying to the US to live in Western Massachusetts. Her 'forever family' consists of two loving parents, an eight-year old girl, a gentle rescue dog, two rescue cats and some chickens. Google Western Massachusetts and you will see how beautiful it is. Muri will have a huge garden and surrounding woodlands to romp in when they go for walks.

She will also be attending puppy school for training and, when it gets cold, will wear warm dog coats and sweaters for her outdoor jaunts.

When she first started lying on the couch and showing a preference for softness and luxury, I used to joke and say that she would love living abroad. Photos of dogs that are adopted from Tobago and flown overseas usually show them happily lying on couches or curled up in luxurious dog beds by fireplaces.

In communicating with her new family, I have absolutely no doubt that they will love her IMMENSELY and give her a great life. In fact, I can envision her and her new 8-year old companion growing up to be the best of friends—inseparable.

As I write this tears are flowing at the idea of one day not having Muri with us. Funny, entertaining, intelligent, cuddly, naughty . . . yet obedient in her own way. A small dog who hasn't grown much physically since she arrived, but whose massive spirit makes her larger than life.

We have one more month to enjoy her in person. It is a good lesson in living in the present, making the most of who and what we have with us when we have them . . . and then being able to let go, knowing that we have given, received and shared our all.
