licensing office giving out old plate numbers?

Postby dogg » April 19th, 2016, 10:27 am

An associate who's buying a new car was told by the dealership that the licensing office is in the process of "using up" old unused plate numbers.

So they have the choice of getting their brand new car with an old number plate, or wait two weeks to receive a current plate. The dealer didn't specify what plate series were to be assigned.

Is that a thing? Does this typically happen?

Sounds a little fishy seeing as how most Trinis judge cars by the number plate series and not the year of manufacture.

hence the term "old" could be unused PDL numbers

Yup before they close the series they go thru and give out unused numbers ..... Sometimes you get nice single digit and two digit ones

not sure if it's the same as i remember but i believe they reserve a quantity of numbers (usually the 1st couple hundred) in every series for government vehicles and at the end if they are unused or unassigned they can be issued to public purchases.

Maybe that's the case here....

1 to 500 usually reserved for motorbikes since they are smaller and have a smaller number plate size. at the end of the series they go back and give out these unused plates.
