All you have to know is the law of conservation of energy:
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but converted from one form to another.

So any vibrating panels means that the vibration of the air getting converted into movement of the panels, thus reducing SPL (it absorbing energy)

So just make everything hard and stiff. Soft materials and vibrating panels absorb sound.
---------------------------------------------------------

2nd thing is the phenomenon of resonance. Every space has a couple frequencies that overpowers the rest. Every car is different so you'll have to do some tests.

-Get a Subwoofer + box with a flat response in free air

-put it in your car and play a frequency sweep. (disable bass boosts , epicenters etc, just make sure the response flat)

-Place your phone where the SPL microphone would be placed and make a recording. Then take the recording and load it up in Audacity and plot the spectrum to see exactly which frequencies are the loudest. (RTA apps not too precise)

The loudest low frequency you get is what you should tune your box at.
(Play around with WinISD to see what specs the box needs to be to hit that specific frequency)

1. plenty money
2. and more money
:-D

rufneck mentioned the most important points.

some questions u need to ask yourself tho are:
1. daily driven.. but how much modifications? Good power - alternator, power cables, grounding, amps. Panel bracing? Sound treatments? Concrete in the doors?
2. hit some good numbers.. how high? Eg - a single 12 could easily do 130dB off 500wrms but it takes double the power to get to 133dB.
3. build a good box. i've seen or heard of many people that build boxes for clients and they just dont perform. even with a heckload of power! but when a good installer rebuilt the box, things were very much improved.

Don't need a lot of money but u do need to do research ,not just a simple one box does it all .
I suggest you download the rules of the sport u wanna compete i.e Meca or iasca and build to suit ,don't want u classified in a higher class because of a battery in the wrong place or mods box too close.to the a or b pillar
