Crude oil surfaces in the city?

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » November 9th, 2015, 2:35 pm

Petrotrin officials have been notified of the discovery of a black substance at Royal Road, San Fernando.

The black substance, believed to be crude oil, was discovered by Water and Sewerage Authourity (WASA) workers on Sunday.

The Express was told that WASA was assisting the San Fernando City Corporation in cleaning drains in the city.

WASA officials said Petrotrin was informed and a team was dispatched to investigate.

Petrotrin officials said the company had no pipelines in the area. “Petrotrin has no installation in San Fernando, so it could be a natural seepage,” the Express was told.

The area, near the Circular Road Quik Shoppe, was cordoned off resulting in single lane traffic in the area.

If it's the top of Marryat st then that certainly ain't a junkyard.

Either way I would be very surprised if it was them..that eh how they live.
Well now at least

Plenty places dump used oil down the drain, not uncommon. Shows up at the wastewater treatment plants.

Cant tell from the vid if its old oil or just black water.

The service station old oil or leaked fuel would be easily identifiable by smell, as would crude (if a natural seepage)

If its source is ID d .....its a BIG clean up cost.

My bet is this will get swept under the rug as the liability is huge.

This is because the San Fernando hill lies in the Naparima Formation and contains the source rock for hydrocarbons.

mudboy is correct of course.

that area near soongs etc has lots of rogue oil seeps due to the source rock formation in that area for several decades. this is probably a larger seep.

about 6-7 yrs ago we found a small seep in someones yard just opposite soongs.
