You sir have NO taste, and knows nothing about kitchen cupboards and carpentry, stick to md marketers style, I can see you like that and making smokers.

I didn't even know I had a style. We just build stuff for low income people from foundation to finish.
I appeal to middle & lower income families mostly. I wont call it a style, but it's the very essence of what the trinituner family is all about. Yeah I know higher income markets are the ultimate goal for any contractor, but it's just not my "style" I guess.

ETS granite (Maracas St Joseph)
Surfaces and Surroundings (Kelly Village, Caroni)
Maraj Universal Counters (Frederick Settlement, Caroni)

all of the above carry large slabs of granite (9 feet by 5 feet approx); places like Tile Warehouse, Home Store and ABC Distributors carry only the smaller prefabricated 8 feet by 26 inches slabs which sometimes come with a factory bullnose. larger slabs are needed for large islands etc.

Maraj Universal also carries quartz and solid surface countertops. As this thread is about cupboards, I'll mention that Maraj Universal is essentially a part of Maraj Woodworking. Maraj Woodworking does commercial work (they did woodwork for the renovation of the main administration building at UWI). They also do residential work which I believe is not that much more expensive than other woodworking companies.

guy from Kelly is pretty good, very experienced
little more pricey but better to hire somebody with experience than someone who messes up the
already costly material.

For granite, keep in mind that there are varying types/quality of granite depending on the appearance, porosity and strength. Some places like Home Express(?) offer very inexpensive grades of granite that make pricing on par with cheaper materials. Granite is beautiful, but doesn't offer seamless joints and it needs to be resealed almost annually as it is a natural stone that absorbs moisture, etc... so it has a recurring cost regardless of price of entry.

Many people sell and install granite so do some research before engaging endless providers... quality granite can get very expensive... over $1000 sq ft depending on countertop size you want. The Hall of Elegance has some great, but pricey stone top options... as does ETS Granite.

A great alternative is modern day solid surface (acyrlic/resin) countertops. They are bacteria resistant and non porus, so don't need a top sealant, only polishing to make it look 'nice'. Prices for acrylic can be as low as $450 sq ft and go as high as $800+ sq ft installed for the fancier ones (translucent or glass/mirror pieces.. bamboo, etc...) as with anything there are various brands and prices around the market... quality typically is determined by heat resistance, scratch resistance, sandability, etc... ensure you get a joiner that has been properly trained so the surface joints are as seamless as possible... a good joiner can make tops that are impossible to tell where the joints are !

X2

thanks for the feedback....

i will do some "window"shopping around next week,

based on my calculations, i need about 28SqFt of countertops.

the cabinets are dark, so we were looking at a light option for the countertops,

We, (meaning the wife) kinda blew the budget on the cabinets/sink/faucet/tankless heater so cost on the countertops is now at a cheaper option....
i want the granite but she wants solid surface....

i havent gotten the quote from ETS granite yet, but i estimated it at 11k
was really looking to be around 7.5k to leave room for surprises...

will be exploring quartz/solid surface/granite and see which is most viable for my needs.

from my research the quartz is the better option if you dont want granite or tiles. It is non porous and requires little maintenance.

There are two main US made brands available locally - Cambria and Silestone.

you can get the cheaper pre-cut sizes at some hardwares or tiles places but be wary of the quality.

I didnt like the solid surface patterns for some reason. Avg prices of quartz can range from $400 and up per sq ft installed.

Solid surface brands vary... the higher priced brands like WilsonArt, Corian or Avonite would offer the 'fancier' looks.

Quartz is beautifully busy and worth the investment if you like the look... but what I really would love to have is a glass countertop.

you should defintely consider quartz for the counter tops, had full teak cupboards done as well with Blu motion concealed soft close hinges and draw slides. I "DIY" the stainless steel backsplash and under cabinets lighting.

Anyone here know about doing stainless steel counter tops locally?

Any companies offering them?

Can these be bought in sheets and bonded (similar to laminates)?
Cost of stainless steel vs laminate sheets?

I bought the stainless steel mosaic tiles online , looked at a few youtube videos and decided to do it myself, I have around 8 -12"x12" of those tiles left over and well as some scrap pieces, if anyone is interested, I would not mind selling it for the same price I paid.
