I think Wizz does, but only certain models.

Better to buy online and get the exact model you want for much cheaper.

after the super fish ordeal they went through a few weeks ago...they might be lowering prices to entice customers back to their brand.

I have a y510p with a failed motherboard after 1 year (few days out of warranty) and all attempts to get this addressed by customer service and the forums have failed.

Avoid anything Lenovo for me from now on ....

You have to make sure. I think it varies with different models.

The one I have was 2 years including 1 year international (the first year), but the 1 year already gone so I don't know would be the case if anything needs repairing later. According to the site the nearest service center is St Kitts.

Wrt to overheating/overclocking/battery life I really can't say because it doesn't get heavy usage.
The buttons for the touchpad are very very lame though.

Refreshed my system recently with these parts
Pentium G3258
Kingston HyperX blu 16gb (2x8gb)
Asrock H81M-HDS
Arctic Cooling Freezer i11
Going to overclock it soon but running it in for a while

I need some advice on a new monitor though; one of the layers in my current 17" monitor's lcd panel appears to be warping after 9yrs of use

I am looking at spending around $2000 on a 24" screen.
Does 1ms GTG, or a faster refresh rate make a big difference
Mainly going to be used for CAD and the occasional game

Faster refreshing would matter to gaming. Then again, if your Internet connection is laggy , a fast refresh not really gonna help your game

why a Pentium processor though?
those newer Pentium processors just share the moniker "Pentium" name they're just locked versions of the current generation processors - i3 i5 - with most of the features turned off / disabled.
current celeron are the same with even more features turned off than the pentium counterparts.

you will however benefit a little by having a 2Mb of memory on the processor L2 cache....and well its 3.2 GHZ...

my $0.02 save some cash and buy a i5 or i7 to suit your needs. remember CAD applications require alot of memory and a good video card

monitor wise if its for CAD design, newer monitors give really good refresh rates so any good brand will do... look for good color reproduction and host of connections - ie VGA DVI HDMI etc.
size is your choice.

gaming wise...talk to HCCA.. he will better advise you of a good video card to buy that can handle CAD applications and occasional gaming.

No eh.

Ditto on an i5 cpu minimum as a later upgrade though.

The most i could advise for satisfactory gaming is between a GTX 760 to a gtx 970 but i dunno how well desktop cards performs for CAD and stuff. Seen some articles on graphics cards using video rendering software and graphics apps tests so check out some of those review sites.

For CAD and stuff you will need an AMD FirePro or NVidia Quadro card, then again those are really workstation cards and aren't well optimized for gaming.

You can use a resource like this to get a base recommendation:

It also depends on the program.

My gtx 460 would work for simple, smallish stuff with Autocad (2008 though)/Maya/MODO/Houdini/etc, but would freeze frames or lag in other programs.
I don't think you could go wrong with something like a 970 if you don't have the $$ for Quadro/FirePro.

The autodesk site would just state what is best, but it doesn't mean the unlisted cards won't work.
But don't take my word for it since I don't know what program and size of projects you would be working on.

Not doing a lot of rendering so I'm good with the dual core. I still believe standard autocad is still single threaded:smile:

The graphics thing with the fire pro and quadro is for the purpose of accurate rendering

I still have 3mb cache, quicksync, and the ability to overclock which is good enough. Memory controller is limited to 1333 though

What I do need is a good display. It's the one component in your machine that you look at the most

Samsung/LG up to 23 inches or Dell 22"- 24".

Just saw this on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidp ... 0p+monitor

Nice price for a 2560 x 1440 monitor.

So I need some advice guys..
I have a dell xps and I want to switch to a ssd. Whats the best value for money ssd. I have about 40gb of music. About 10gb of documents, pics etc. Looked on amazon at the Kingston but there are lots of mixed reviews. Amazon links to specific ones you use would help alot.

Also, I would have to reinstall everything from scratch right? Thanks.

^^ You can migrate to an SSD fairly painlessly without having to reinstall everything. Did it twice using EaseUS Todo Backup Free, guide here:

Probably 120gb minimum. You can use the old HD for storage as well for pics, documents, video etc. And reserve the SSD for the OS and applications.

As to manufacturer, I use the Kingston myself with no problem, but Intel, Crucial, SanDisk, Transcend and Samsung are all good, but they have different models with different performance levels.

Cant really see myself plugging in old hard drive all the time. Music needs to be on tap at all times or itunes will run amok. Maybe i can clean up some stuff but these are the two partitions on my hard drive right now.
Media is music, videos, pics etc
Local is Windows, Programs etc.

Maybe ill need a 500gb ssd.

Now realize is a laptop you have, there. Yeah 500gb would work but you might as well buy a new laptop if you spending that much. 240 gb is probably what you need.
