Thermostat had to change in the wifey mazda3 last week.

Was stuck in a semi open position and car started to overheat with coolant coming out the overflow on the bottle.

Did you get the OEM part or a generic replacement? Cost if OEM?

Hey guys, i own a 2008 mazda 3 and i'm getting some problems. I have been hearing some dragging scraping noise from the front of my vehicle for some time now. With that noise i've been getting alot of acceleration problems especially when going up hills. Did change engine mounts, align, speed balance almost everything i could think about nothing worked. I read online that it could be the wheel bearing when i carried it to another mechanic for a test drive he said the problem is the Alternator tensioner pulley bearing. What do you guys think?

nah, didnt notice any performance issues. the noise would be loud on start up then stop suddenly. One day it just didnt go away and was coming from the top pulley. So I had to change it before any damage was done.

Could be your tensioner pulley.

I get the same thing but, when I asked my mech about it he said was nothing but I might need a second opinion on it. Remember when the A/C comes on it puts an extra load on your belts that the tensioner pulley is supposed to take up. Otherwise if it is not that then it might be the compressor.

What's the average price of a Mazda 3 alternator? I think I might need one.

Apparently the 2008 Mazda 3 don't have an external fuel filter, southern sales checked my chassis number and said it does not carry one. Also my mechanic did a check and found none. So I don't know.

Most new cars the filter is on the pump assembly it is just a strainer "bag"

Hmm. So what happens if the strainer clogs? Would it damage the pump?

well it can't be nothing, cause it makes a hell of a noise outside the car!

Can't say that mine that loud though, I hear it that loud if I open my hood. But like I said my suspect is that Tensioner pulley since i had a bit of an issue that i had to get my A/C checked and the guy mentioned nothing about it; mainly I am thinking he might have said my compressor is fooked or on the way to that point if it was.

Yes it's either tensioner or compressor. I'm hoping it's tensioner. Mine is die for a service soon so I'll let them sort it out then.

There are some guys who do repairs on alternators that can do this; check them and see. I have even spoken to an A/C guy and he said they rebuild compressors so you could find out about that if it really is the compressor and if the bearing can be changed.
