dunno how the lancer ended up off the road though....I honestly thought that the vehicle was hit from behind and as a result ran off the road....

The Guardian and the Express only reported the woman's family side of the story.

Begin CSB

I was repairing my AC in Mile End when the 3 cars past us (Sunny, B14 and Corolla). They were driving quite fast. I didnt pay attention to it. I left maybe 5 mins later. When I was going thru the teak I noticed 2 cars stopped, and a light green lancer reversing erratically and then... (ready for this Vega) rams the front of the black sunny and simultaneously running over the woman. The sunny fell to the side of the ditch and the lancer continued bumping over the woman till it completely passed over her and then he ran off the side of the road himself. This when I noticed what all the commotion about, he was trying to escape a severe beating from the cutlass wielding men of the other cars who appeared to be intoxicated. One of them even had a house phone in his hand. He ran toward my car but i was like 'feck this' and drove off past him and the chasing gang.

I stopped a few feet past the corolla and far enough away from the altercation to see if i can render assistance. By that time, 2 plain clothes off duty officers showed up and calmed the situation. The woman's family put her in a car and rushed her to the hospital. I think this was the biggest mistake. She was responsive while on the ground. They should have waited for the ambulance or fire service which did show up 5 mins after they left with her.

Thats what I saw. The guy had his father in the car with him... if i had seen people about to attack me with blades I probably would have done the same. Unfortunate that the woman had to die in all this.

Yes. I also heard a similar story from a relative who was there.
Everytime I know of an incident beforehand, the news article always reports some severely distorted and biased version of it. Sensationalism sells I suppose.
