German couple murdered in Tobago.

THE BODIES of a man and woman believed to be murdered were found on a beach in Bacolet, Tobago at around midday.

The identities of the persons were not yet known, police said.

The killings brought the murder toll in Tobago to seven for the year.

In July, taxi-driver Curtis James, 60 was found dead was smothered to death with a pillow during what police believe was a robbery.

Also in July another taxi-driver Dain Kent, and Trinidadian businessman Nigel “Redman” Frasier were also killed.

On January 1, Toco resident Curtis Lovelace was stabbed to death.

An elderly German couple who have been com­ing to vacation in Toba­go for several years were found hacked to death along Minis­ter’s Bay, Bacolet Beach, yesterday morning.
Tobago police were alerted to the gruesome disco­very around 10 a.m. by two people who were walking along the beach.
Retired German couple Birgid and Hubertus Keil were found chopped to death, metres apart.
Police are yet to confirm a motive for Tobago’s latest tragedy as all items at the couple’s home, located in
Bac­o­let Crescent, were untouched.
Police officials visited the couple’s residence following the discovery of their bodies.
The husband was said to be in his 70s and his wife in her 60s.
Officers said two people stumbled on the body of Birgid Keil and called for help.
When officers arrived and were about to leave the scene around 12.30 p.m., the body of her husband, Hubertus Keil, was discovered some 400 feet (122 metres) away from the woman.
Both bodies bore gaping chop wounds to the back of their necks.
A defensive wound was also
observed on the left hand of Keil, sug­ges­ting he may have struggled with his attacker.
Police suspect the bodies may have been on the beach for one or two days.
The couple arrived in Tobago three weeks ago.
Neighbours said they usually visited the island every October and vacationed on the island until March.
Officers had no motive for the killings as the cou­ple’s house keys and cellu­lar phones were found on them.
The bodies were positively iden­ti­fied by property manager Brian Abraham.
District Medical Officer of Health Dr Leslie Garbar ordered the bodies removed to the Scarborough mor­tuary.
An autopsy is to be performed to determine the cause of death. Scar­borough homicide investigators are continuing investigations.
The killings put Tobago’s murder toll at seven for

The couple’s house is within walk­ing distance of the Bacolet home that belonged to Peter and Murium Green, who were chopped viciously on August 1, 2009.
The Greens recovered after ex­tensive sur­gery and have not returned to Tobago.
Police said one possibility was that the man who attacked
the Greens may also have been responsible for the attack on the German couple.
Contacted for a comment on the matter yesterday, Peter Green said he and his wife were made aware of the double murder.
“It has come at a time when we were getting ready to make state­ments about our attack,” Peter Green said.
In an immediate response to the couple’s deaths, rep­re­sentative for the largest German tour operator Patrick Dankou said yesterday he learned of the incident when the Sun­day Express contacted him.
Dankou said he was in a state of shock and disbelief.
“After years of incidents, Tobago has since seen a recovery in inter­na­tional arrivals. This will have a serious impact on international arrivals to Tobago, especially for the upcoming bumper season previously projected. Some cancellations might be forthcoming. All information on the attack of these visitors must be investigated thoroughly,” Dankou said.

In November last year, a German engineer called Peter Taut, who lived a couple of houses away from the Greens, was murdered and his body was found in a shallow grave in his own garden. The couple wonder if the attacks could be linked.

Tobago is on a downward spiral. What I found most disgusting was not even ONE article was posted about this unfortunate situation in the Tobago News online. Most every other Caribbean island's newspaper, Reuters and Yahoo! News mentioned this murder but nothing from Tobago's press.

My husband and I recently visited Tobago and we decided to not visit again, at least not anytime soon. The customer service was horrendous, the attitudes we encountered in shopping malls, groceries and restaurants was extremely distasteful, rude and nonchalant. Imagine we went to a local bakery to request a cake and we simply asked the cashier "what type of cakes do you have" and she replied "yuh ent see them right dey? Dais all we have", with rolled eyes to boot. We simply walked out. The only Tobagonians that helped salvage the experience was our driver (an older gentleman) and hotel manager (German). We have decided to not recommend Tobago to our friends, family and colleagues. We had a much more pleasant experience in Trinidad.

Its one thing for the government to give their condolences and quite another to DO something about it. Some vengeful person is after tourists and he or she is allowed to reign free because of the inept government and police force of Tobago. What could these two tourists have done to cause such an ANGRY attack?? Is there some history we don't know about? It all seems so personal. No hold up for cash or belongings but just a brutal death. It also appears they were renting a villa (perhaps?) from Abraham Realty. Why are tourists even renting from Abraham Realty when most of their villas are not on gated premises? It's just a huge risk if you ask me.

From our experiences of horrible customer service, 8-hour flight delays to and from Trinidad/Tobago, dilapidated conditions of hotels and guest facilities to now more rampant attacks and murders of tourists, its best Tobago learns this the hard way by tourists finding other islands to spend vacation. The government will more than likely not doing anything about this unfortunate event! No increased patrol, no local ordinance that requires all rentals and hotels have 24/7 security, just nothing. Tobagonians don't seem to care so why should tourists continue to spend their money there? Let them learn the hard way.
