South cops seize modified cars

SOUTH-WESTERN Division police seized four cars modified for street racing during an anti-crime exercise in Penal and Quinam on the weekend. Police seized the vehicles which were outfitted with racing engines and other illegal modifications. The vehicles were seized at Quinam beach car park.

Officers said the drivers were preparing to race when police arrived. The cars have been handed over to the Licensing Authority. Meanwhile, 16 persons were arrested for various offences including possession of narcotics and driving under the influence of alcohol. A total of 75 persons underwent Breathalyzer tests.

The exercise which was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Richardson and Supt Supt Joseph began at 10 pm on Saturday and ended at 9 am on Sunday and included Insps Parriman, Ramsingh and Ramsundar along with members of the South-Western Division Task Force and CID.

I know what goes on there, but what determines a racing engine and illegal mods? so if i put a FMIC on my car is it illegal?
I can understand if they were charged for wreckless driving etc... but cars being seized is insane
