WTK Large appliances purchase

Postby ravs » July 22nd, 2014, 4:46 pm

Anyone can recommend a place to get quality large appliances and where warranty is honoured? Of course, at good prices as well...

reliable appliances

http://reliableappliances.net/online/

can't really say about their warranty as their stuff has not given me any problems. prices were good enough (better than fen's at the time) and they had a decent selection. Kevan (manager at St James branch) was reasonable to work with

Thanks for the info, I'll check out both of them and see how they compare... What brand would you say is a generally problem free brand for fridge, dishwasher etc.?

I actually had to order my front-loading washer and dryer online. THe local options were just too limited. I ordered one through sears adn the other through amazon. Ocean freight came up to around $1000tt.

But Lewis Appliances, Fens, Standard, Courts are all professional in their dealings, so you'll be fine with them.

Actually I would be buying all furniture and some home theater stuff in Miami and shipping it down, but I'm thinking that for warranty purposes it may be best to buy them in Trini... I agree though that locally the options are somewhat limited... From my little research thus far I can really save a lot on furniture by shopping away, but unless I get a steal of a deal away the savings on the appliances are not as good... but are savings none the less... No one mentioned Parts World, are they worth considering?

Got this from a technician 20 years in the field.....
Reliable.....Good appliances at good prices , they service and advise accordingly.
Courts......Good Brands but also have some bad brands, advice from untrained individuals who know nothing about what they sell and service questionable.
Partsworld.....Good brands, good service, good advice but price a little above competituve .
Fens......heard only good things never really did business.
Lewis......stay away, worst company....bad everything. Mostly GE which in my opinion focus more on industrial products than domestic, so their household products suffer from cost cutting than actual innovation.

reliable appliances and parts world have branches on the western main road,st james that are almost adjacent to each other. park at one spot and you can check out both. the upstairs floor of parts world st james is (when i checked a couple years back) something of a showroom for the italian kitchen company; so you can check out their countertops/cabinetry.

lewis appliances carries 'high end' ge and their prices are not competitive.

parts world st james carries some more expensive stuff than their barataria branch; probably trying to trap some expats.

you may want to check an appropriate issue of consumer's digest magazine for appliance reviews; the same brands (samsung, frigidaire, lg, ge) that are available in the us are usually available in trinidad (sometimes even the same models). as you pointed out, the selection is not that great. but the prices in trinidad are basically comparable to the us (once you factor in shipping).

Thanks for the info... I definitely like the idea of hitting Parts World and Reliable in one go. After I check out what they have locally I'll take the advice and find some reviews from a reputable magazine or other site...

I was advised by some persons to stay away from courts because of the after sales service. I did contact Lewis and their prices did seem a bit on the high side..

Standards has good prices and allows u to purchase a 3/4 year warranty. However their after sales service stinks! It takes months to get a simple repair done.

I ended up buying everything at Fens... Went with the GE brand.. Lewis and DS Maharaj prices were a bit on the high side. Only had my new appliances for about three months so far, but no complaints as yet.. Fens is more open to negotiation than most places. Note though that based on the brand and model (in my case) most things had to be ordered which took a couple months for delivery...

Fens does not stock much in GE whatsoever because they consider it a more medium/high end brand which is not a quick sale. They allow you however to pick items out of the current GE catalogue which they have in their store or pick a model online and they would quote on it... Personally, I requested them to quote on specific models I researched online, negotiated a descent price and placed a downpayment for them to order it.
