Common knowledge that cepep workers are used to promote Gov't initiatives. Not discounting that it may have happened under the previous administration also.

After so much construction and pathways cleared out, he should realise it's too late. He should go eat a subway and humble himself. He's just wasting his time and effort.

its been claimed by some that those who rightfully owned land accepted the 'generous' buy out and relocated and that the ones protesting have been squatting for some time, have no land title and as such their relocation packages were substantially less....

might be just a rumour...might not...

^truth.

I was talking with a guy who might of had to move but now he doesn't. He say the hi way will benefit him and his grandchildren and will allow the south to modernise. He and most of the neighborhood wouldn't mind moving due to the greater good.

It's only the people that squatting would get the short end of the stick

The TTPS are a bunch of muffler bearing when it comes to dealing with this type of matter, even with documentation, they refused to even issue a warning.

I had to deal with some squatters on my family's land yesterday @ Salazar Trace point Fortin ....

my method may be unorthodox and some point cruel but i have zero tolerance when it comes to these people......

Long and short, i got a permit from forestry and the fire service to do a controlled burn. And yes, they do issue permits to light fires in the dry season.....

I torched the surrounding area upwind and you be surprised how smoke gets rid of pest and how quickly fire engulfs a shack.

I don't care how many chirren he and his chile modder have, don't come on my family's land and try to put up no facking structure, you and your chirren will get burned to a chrisp!

He seems to be drunk with affection and so continue to make an ase of himself dragging his family name in the mud. when this highway is built the users including the rerouters relatives and grand children will be amased that some idiot tried to stop it.

THE Highway Re-Route Movement (HRM) has failed in its legal action to get a conservatory order to stop construction of the Debe to Mon Desir segment of the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin, pending the outcome of the constitutional case brought by the HRM.

Sitting in the Hall of Justice this afternoon, Justice James Aboud ruled that members of the HRM has waited too long to file its legal action.

The HRM, through its attorneys, had argued that Government had created a legitimate expectation after meeting with HRM which believed that construction work between Debe and Mon Desir would only continue after Government considered recommendations made in the Armstrong Report.

In a 74 page judgement, Justice Aboud said that while he believed that the rights of individuals had been infringed upon and a legitimate expectation created, the length of time taken by members of the HRM to file a legal action seeking a conservatory order, was too long, and the HRM should have acted sooner.

A case management hearing will take place on May 14.

- More on Justice Aboud's judgement in tomorrow's Express newspaper.

He said in arriving at yesterday’s decision, he had to balance justice and take into consideration the consequences of granting such an order.
“In considering the balance of justice, the granting of an order to stop the highway to secure a right of review must be balanced against the tremendous cost that the taxpayer has already borne and the stupendous cost that he or she will bear as a result of its grant.
“To this must be added the continued burden of oppressive traffic faced by thousands of motorists. I must bear in mind as well that the review sought to be protected by this order, is not guaranteed to result in any substantial design alteration, and, at least on the basis of Dr Armstrong’s report, is unlikely to lead to a reroute of the highway,” said the judge.
He added, even though Government agreed to review the findings of the report, it did not agree to abide by the recommendations, and in any event, did not agree to stop work on the disputed section.

Can't wait for this new highway. Indeed a blessing to all of us who commute and stuck in traffic for hours. Sacrifice of the few must be done for the benefit of the many. And in so saying the few are actually well compensated for their movement. I know some people from oropouche (squatters) who got two lots of land to relocate and get a monthly allowance (can't remember the figure) until they start to build on the land and occupy. This allowance is for renting purposes whist their house is being built.
So just imagine a squatter getting this amazing package to relocate but yet they arguing bout the new highway.

Highway for it all the way.
