Seeing as you mention Mayaro...is there possibility of catching anything decent using a hand reel from shore (shallow water) in MAyaro? Dont have a rod, but have a few reels and dont mind killing some time doing that.

Definitely, i caught all my fish last year when i went mayaro with a caster within the first 30 feet of water, nothing too big though cats, zelwan, whiting and baby cavalli.

I use a regular 2 dropper rig with a banking sinker and #4 hooks circle, or regular bronze. I never caught large cavalli in mayaro but people definitely have, so you might need to beef up that rig and cast out far with a live bait or a big shrimp to get chance at that. The little guys are in the wash 6 ft from shore coming in with the breaking waves and rushing back out. The whiting tend to hang back in the slacks where the water is calmer behind where the waves break mid shore, i mainly target those. cut shrimp and sand fleas work really well for those.

Caught some pompano and power or pawa between 2 to 4 pounds today and some tawat and other fish in manzan today.

Water was good for fishing apart from d seaweed, but was still alright.

What do you do with the tarpon? Cant fillet them, cant make a decent steak-cut..only good for mince and even so not that great.
