Postby JJ16 » April 23rd, 2014, 8:37 pm

financial backing?

I am ASSUMING here..but I think if Aaron wanted to forge his engine he could have, if he wanted to buy a built engine..once again I'm assuming..he can correct me if I'm wrong, he could have with ease..

However..he decided to build *like i stated previously*

Plus him doing 12.7 and engine surviving was impressive, even so much so he even went D&W I believe (if i recall correctly)

And his engine is stock.....forging an engine doesn't make it GOD...it just makes it stronger...but if you have a proper tuner..who takes his time and considers certain factors I think you're engine would be equally as reliable..and I guess he has proven that.. 12.7 is close enough to 12.5... if he probably launches harder and or retunes just a bit, or even if conditions vary a bit he can do 12.5 or better...

IMO I just think his build is rather impressive, and he is doing it right...

some men go, forge, big turbo, fancy cams .. d world of parts..and either break engine one time, or still get a slow time.

I knew of someone who spent over 80k on a engine build...man buy d world of parts... and it was #failure

just saying.

hmmmm look where this thread reach...

for the record this initial post did not start to big up any mechanic or tuner etc but to simply highlight misconceptions mainly among locals without proper backing....

we may not believe everything in the article, i too am taking some stuff with a grain of salt...

as lance said, there are a lot of tuners who would spend the time to dial in a car properly, then there are the lazy ones who are just there for the fast buck....

i don't see why sponsorship and financial backing has anything to do with this topic....

not to stray off topic, ie. the truth behind the subaru engine, but when my project started i made a decision not to look for "big power" and high hp figures but a reliable tuned car with simple bolt ons to learn this year and upgrade later on when either it fails or I decide to look for a lot more power. i could have opted to go the route of building my engine and get as much power as i can from it BUT what is the sense when i would not be able to fully drive the car since i can't control the power under the hood...

as for the comment with the 12.5secs, thanks for the incentive but i'm gonna stick to my little slow time for 12.7secs....im pretty much happy with it for a stock engine and turbo....only time will tell with regards to the later....

i was expecting the comments to turn and be directed to my team and our "flaws" but its a risk to take....

now back to the discussion...

When I was checking my car to buy I called two of the more popular mechanics to check it for me and both of the responses were why not get an evo, subaru hard to make power....both of these also do tuning but not open source...

So after reading this article it made me wonder if lack of knowledge of the way the engine makes power or lack of their ability to properly tune is why they made such comments....

Thread make some turns ...lol

On the topic of ej engines..anyone locally can confirm the v7 or earlier carrying forged rods/pistons vs hyperuthetic (sp) of the later models???

I don't buy it that any of these engines came with forged internals (in the traditional sense). Probably an alloy that is stronger than what came in the ej205.

FHI never confirmed any of this.

Well from what i've read and what I assumed was a common standing with STi engines were that they came with forged parts.. Forged OEM standard and Aftermarket forged parts may be the difference, as aftermarket parts may be a bit stronger in terms of withstanding abuse and not failing.

But I don't know for a fact if its forged or not. I just assumed that STi engines came forged..vs that of the WRX standard pistons.

^^ if you read, you would see what i am "basically" saying is that I READ they came with forged pistons.. I am not employed by Subaru, I am not an engine builder and I don't go palming off my opinion as FACTS..

however ignoring that meaningless comment.

this is an aftermarket crank pulley from a pal's wrx....it is actually one of the best after market on the market presently.

Image

i got a message from him a few days ago complaining that the brand not good and damaged on his car..so i thought it was weird since i know a lot of people who use it. only to find out the next day when he did his checks, a top local mechanic didn't install it correctly and threw the blame on the product, when infact it was his lack of competence......

this little scenario go in the hand, with the initial topic of a lot of misconception

EJ is a good engine.
First step when modding an EJ is to get a damn good mechanic and tuner.
Always listen to your tuner and not let your ego get in the way.

Bad mechanics blame parts, when it could be incompetence.
Bad tuners blame mechanics, sometimes parts.
Bad owners blame everyone but themselves, especially when you want big numbers and performance but cheaping out on the basics.

I recently witnessed where a vehicle owner was begging a tuner for more power. Tuner stood his ground that the car will break...
Youthman left and brought back his pops to get back his money...

No one is knocking ECUtek on the grounds of the tune.

All things taken into account I think if you have no idea how to tune then Ecutek is great way to go. You pay for a service from a professional, they tune your car to make reliable power and lock the ecu. Like others have stated previously: locking the ecu is probably the best option to avoid chaos ensuing, as there is always the temptation to turn up boost or "try a ting". If the vendor tuned the car well then in theory, even if the users load changed +/- 40 units they should still be okay.

The way I look at it is, if someone knew what they were doing then in all likelihood they would have never gone with Ecutek in the first place as they very well know they can do it themselves and how to go about it. As a tuner you have to protect your intellectual property and your reputation. Customers sharing maps, posting them on the internet, or modifying them risks both the reputation and fiscal interests of the tuners livelihood.

Can you explain the reasons why you prefer an EJ more than a 4G63 please?
Does it have anything to do with OEM strength, reliability or tuning potential? Just curious about your comment.

I'm a type of person that likes if i can locate a new block. With pistons or just a bare block. New heads Ect. Bare heads and such. Subaru vehicles are up and coming both locally and foreign. Tons of aftermarket parts and the best part engines are interchangeable.

Subaru also doesn't need a engine management system. The stock ecu can be tuned and easily viewed values with a access port

Mitsubushi parts are harder to locate locally. Subaru parts are easy. That's basically it.

I'm a mitsubushi guy. But due to parts and prices. Subaru is my next vehicle.

That's basically it

Semi closed deck ej207 is a rare thing...nowadays

Parts on sti not cheap...neither on evo...but can get most anything through local tuner shops...

^^ buh you brought no sort of technical contribution to the ched other than the fanboy "4g63 rules"...if its the man's opinion so be it....but lets not turn it into that because there are tons of stories locally with men breaking both stock and build evo engines on the dyno with very little increases in boost...again boils down to tuner error

im guessing what he meant it, its easier and cheaper to get subaru support and parts than the high cost local shops are charging for parts....
we have to admit, there are a lot of local sellers who offer little tech support other than, yeh buy this from me, i using it....

u still toting, d REAL purpose of this thread was an ego boost for u on your purchase, sorry sis i'm not gonna assist on that

also, if someone has to say the EJ is a strong motor u must have some yardstick to measure it against, that yardstick so happens to be its rival & it doesnt measure up

NEXT thing- soundboy64 post is riddled wid a host of inaccurate info & u kno it!!!

soundboy64 ask yurself why 4g men dont have to worry about getting new oem long blocks to buy & why its available in such an abundance for EJ men

SUPPLY & DEMAND
