anybody get extradited yet? Or is it beacause the 2 weeks pass we all forget

I saw an interview with former head of the central authority and past director of the FIU, attorney David West on one of the morning talk shows that the DEA is down here most likely to collect evidence meaning any remaining gaps in their case will be filled by the evidence they collect here in T&T. The evidence will then be taken to a US grand jury who would review the case and a decision would be made.

Once the grand jury accepts the findings of the case, an indictment would be made resulting in an extradition request. They have the right to prosecute the matter in the US because the bust happened on american soil. Don't be surprised that the US never told the T&T government anything because they knew that nothing would have come out of it if T&T did the bust (like the previous busts in Point Lisas) so they wanted the shipment to pass thru our port and reach the US meaning THEY can make the bust themselves then come down here to brace people.

If the government plays the arse like what they did with Ish & Steve, the US can use force like what they did in Jamaica in 2010. When the US wanted Dudus Coke, Prime Minister Bruce Golding make a set of excuses until the US directly and indirectly put force on his administration. Check the article:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-15147228

If the DEA is still here, I suspect they are still collecting evidence and/or have their suspects under lockdown making sure they don't leave the country - either by doing it themselves or forcing the government to have them under lockdown until their case is complete and the verdict given by the US grand jury.

Since the DEA is not making anything public, we have no idea how far they are in the case and if the grand jury reached a verdict. There was talk of an extradition request/diplomatic note but that story fall thru. Although I think it was too early for the US to make an extradition request and it would come later on, I could be wrong because again, the DEA not talking and plus we are not sure about what agreements both countries are under where the US can fast forward things. People are talking and pointing to the Status of the Forces Agreement (SOFA). I would not be surprised the "diplomatic note" was really something to do with locking down the suspects in T&T so they are not able to run.

I doubt 50+ agents are down here just to collect evidence alone. They are not leaving empty handed.

on point!

U cant solve a crime such as this overnight. If what is true that the DEA is looking into this, then its going to take some time. DEA gives you rope then they pull you in, trini law forces cant be trusted in a matter such as this.

And suddenly the banks realize that there is over $1 Billion of "dirty money" in the system and there is a call for businesses to say no to corruption (never-mind that is how some of the businesses get big and survive)..... and they blaming the FIU like if they had no choice but to take the money into the bank. This country priceless yes...literally!

Griffith mum on DEA’s presence in T&T

By Carla Bridglal carla.bridglal@trinidadexpress.com

Story Created: Feb 20, 2014 at 10:50 PM ECT
(
Story Updated: Feb 20, 2014 at 10:50 PM ECT )

National Security Minister Gary Griffith is not saying whether or not there are United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officers operating in Trinidad and Tobago.
“I have no intention to make any statement to a matter that is currently being investigated. There is an obvious reason for this. We do not want to drop the ball. All I can say—it will be improper of me to say if DEA agents are here. What I can state is that individuals who continue to mention all the number of DEA officials who turned up here, it was not Gary Griffith, it was not the Prime Minister; those questions should be turned to the individuals who said that. I never said if they were here and if they were not,” he said.
Since news broke last month of a US$100 million cocaine find at the Port of Norfolk in the US state of Virginia, from a shipment originating from the Port of Port of Spain, there has been speculation and reports that DEA officials were in Trinidad and would be making an arrest in the case soon.
Griffith was one of the ministers speaking at the post-Cabinet news briefing yesterday at the Office of the Prime Minister in St Clair.
He said Cabinet has approved a Community Comfort Patrol Pilot Programme, manned by private security officers to complement the police Rapid Response Unit in “hot spot” areas.
Griffith said the new programme, which was “designed to address the fear and perception of crime by citizens”, will complement the Police Service and allow the Rapid Response Unit to better respond to calls.
“People complain they hear too many sirens and too many blue lights, but I wish to assure you—you will see many more because we will provide that visibility and that deterrent.”
The mobile patrols will be sourced through the private security network commission and will comprise private officers who will have powers of arrest and be fully trained and through the (approval) of the Commissioner of Police to support and complement the police force, he said.
Vehicles will also be constantly monitored while on patrol through global positioning systems (GPS) via the National Operations Centre (NOC).
“What you will get is more visibility and presence and faster response to the scene (from rapid response units). These patrols are by private security officers, not police officers. They will complement the Police Service temporarily until we have the Rapid Response Unit at full level.”
That unit currently operates with 21 vehicles, but the full complement will be 77, with 51 vehicles on the road at all times, so the average response time will be five to seven minutes, said Griffith.
The service will be nothing new, he said, since something like it already exists in higher income communities where neighbourhoods pay for the service. Under the programme, the State will pay for the patrols.
Service delivery from law enforcement officers will also include customer relations training, as Griffith also announced Cabinet approval for a Customer Relations and Protocol Training Programme for law enforcement state agencies.
The first stage will target police and immigration officers, he said, “to ensure they know how to speak to law-abiding citizens properly”.

A man get the "mum" is the word speech. Don't jump out yourself again.

Vids on the mexican drug cartels posted earlier
Mexico's 'Shorty' Guzman arrested

The United States says one of the the world's most wanted drug barons, Joaquin Guzman, known as El Chapo or Shorty, has been arrested in Mexico. He was the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, which smuggles huge amounts of illegal drugs into the US. 'Shorty' Guzman had been on the run since escaping a high security prison in a laundry basket in 2001. He was arrested in Sinaloa state, in a joint operation with United States anti-drugs forces. Guzman was at a hotel in the north-western resort of Mazatlan, the AP news agency reported. The US state department had offered a reward of up to $5m (£3.2m) for information leading to his arrest. He has been indicted on federal trafficking charges and US officials want him extradited if he is ever captured. Several close associates of 'Shorty' Guzman had been arrested over the past two years in the US and Mexico. Forbes magazine has estimated Guzman's fortune at about $1bn (£600m).

History has shown that once the US Drug Enforcement Agency is on your case, you 'WILL' be dealt with.
They seem to prefer to allow a false sense of security causing their target to surface within their territorial limits.
Check the records.

Once again the USA is full ah-chit
The US alllowed the mob to run things in the peak of 1940s to 1990s, it was ok for the mob as they had things undercontrol (Dole & d Boys, T&T style) and they were not considered a pest as they only killed out each other (same as Laventille). As time went by they got out hand so the FBI took action to bring them down.
In the 1980s the drug trade was allowed to prosper because it help the US economy out of their recession, a number of papers was written on this. When they got out of the recession then they started to clamp down on the trade.
Ganja is USA largest cash crop earner some $35Billion and not much is done to put a stop to it as it providers for the US economy once again. The US is the largest consumer of illegal drugs.
So whos knows maybe the DEA are protecting the US out of their recession once again
