RBL policy on paying USD and TT side changed?

Postby crazychinee » February 4th, 2014, 6:49 pm

Saw something on FB, can anyone verify?

That in order to now pay the USD balance on your RBL Card you need physical cash, or purchase from the bank? Is this for inbank transactions?or online as well.

I just cleared my entire USD balance via online banking though...

Havent been informed of this policy change. Rbl pays the card with the daily selling rate anyway so why would you need cash?

I know they implemented daily limits now at the various branches, it's harder to get US currency because there's some apparent shortage. You would only get US right away if you have the available funds in an US account, if not, you might just get a portion of your asking amount once it's available to them within the daily limit.

the policies in all the banks have changed

first of all, you can only pay what's owed on the US side for the statement balance for that month
you aren't allowed to pay any extra at all (even towards the following month )

if you go to any other branch of rbl, they have to call home branch to verify they can accept your payment (that have to verify you actually owing US)
many times they don't get through to someone in home branch as home branch (whichever one it is) it now receiving plenty calls from all over the country with credit card inquiries and theres probably one person handling it

so what would take 5 minutes at the teller, will now take up to 30 minutes

apparently its a new policy that larry howai implemented

Someone was telling me that the money she was depositing towards a US credit card, which was the TT equivalent she was putting, wasn't being paid to the CC. It remained in a holding account or something.
And she had to come in and withdraw that money, buy US and then pay it to the account.
Plus when she tried to do it they said it had a limit on how much US she could "buy".
Took her. Two visits over a couple weeks to clear her CC balance.

Went to pay wife's cc at Woodbrook branch.
Had TT$ to pay both US and TT side.

Teller said I was too late and that their US$ allowance for the day was used up. So i couldn't buy any US$ to settle bill. And to go to my home branch to get it paid.

I told the teller put it all on the TT side. Then had my wife call CC card company to tell them that she made a mistake and that some of the TT was for the US side. Yay me, I trolled the banking system.

No problems with my CC. I pay it all online without issue.

What is the advantage of them having a US and TT side though? better conversion for customers?

Would a shortage of US currency affect FCB/RBC/SBTT in the same way since their cards convert the US transaction to TT For billing?

payments only up to what is owed on USD side of CC are no longer included in daily limit.
if your bill is 500 USD you can pay 500 USD from ttd cash/transaction.

BTW these RBL c/cards really mess up your credit rating when a Transunion credit report is done due to RBL's incompetence in being able to process payments to the US side of the card.

FCB credit card. Hmm...sounds like what I'm looking for....just thinking of the amount of time it will take for the CSRs to attend to me scares me though. Up to a few months ago they had people waiting/ suffering for almost 2 hours just to get a bank statement.

Which is why I prefer online banking because it allows you to pay excess by doing multiple payments. For example, the amount owed may be 500us (which is the maximum amount that could be entered at one time) and you may want to pay 1000us to allocate additional funding for the upcoming month. Instead, you could actually do 2 payments of 500us and it will go through.

^^^ you sure about that?

from my experience, RBL online banking outright says "excess payment to card not allowed" if you try to pay more than what's owed.

and in any event, the maximum payment cap is the equivalent of $75,000 TT per day

Yup. Did it myself while vacationing abroad. Had to clear my card online while doing some shopping and the only amount posted as an approved and authorized transaction was approximately 300us and I needed to clear in or around 900usd for upcoming expenditure. So I entered multiple amounts of 300 and it worked. Debits, if I remember correctly, are shown in red and credits in black and the amount was shown as a credit (black) to the account. If you enter an amount which exceeds the maximum approved value only then will you get the error "excess payment to card not allowed".
