In the oil and gas drilling sector what exactly is a "drainman" and what is that person's duties, etc?

A drainman works on land rigs, this is the guy responsible for clearing the 'drains' and getting the returns back into the mud pits, clearing the cellar ect. Lower than a Roustabout, not really allowed on the rig floor.

I see you still remembered the good ole days.

As trini_ravi said, the drainman is like the "scumbag" for the land drilling operation.
Could be underpaid as well.
