i used to do welding for a living about 15yrs ago - still have all my tools & fairly often use them to make\fix something or d other

9" grinders are really heavy duty but can be weighty & fatiguing to use especially when they so powerful - u really have to hold on strong to those beyotches , have a 9" bosch that is over 15yrs old , its a beast that can cut down steel posts & 99% of d time i use a 7" disc on it for easier handling , so this why i rec a 7"

4-4.5" grinders are nice but can be a bit noisy though , they lightweight & fairly cheap now around $500 , back then was around $1000-1200 for 1 , bought a 4.5" milwaukee about 2-3yrs ago , dont like where d on\off switch is , i find its kinda rough operating & is a lil tiring on d hands but it does its job

look at d weight & feel of whichever u buying ....

if its just DIY stuff, the 4" should suffice, i only use stainless steel cutting discs (the really thin disc)
and that cuts anything like butter

i saw the 7" at bhags for 1150 i belive, dewalt brand, if the price isnt an issue, well get the bigger one!

I bought a 9", used it once and sold it after. Too heavy for me.
Prefer my dewalt 4.5"
The cheap harbor freight discs work good for cutting,
They are thin so cut faster than the expensive discs

I use 4.5" grinders, my dad has the 7" but it's too bulky.

thought i could get an answer here, what can i use on wood for a non-gloss clear finish?
the stuff i used before that says 'clear' always has a slight colour in it.
i love the look of bare white pine but i also want to protect it.

Matte varnish for flat, or satin for semi gloss. I did all my teak with matte, beautiful.

Nah, the wood looking natural ,I bought it by Bhags, they had it in Berger and Sissons I think, but I bought Cuprinol. It expensive but it also is a preservative.

Home Store also carries a matte clear water based varnish. Very good stuff for indoor use. Also used on teak. Dont remember the brand though. $160/qt

anyone have experiences with torches like this?

im checking them out and seeing refills from 40$
but im unsure what kit to get. I want to get one to solder ring terminals and other small stuff. Most solder irons wont work for me.

im seeing self lighting ones with a trigger and im seeing some without and il need to light it myself which isnt a scene.

the price has a huge difference.
300ish for a starter kit. Benzomatic
im seeing the manual ones for 170ish.

yeah

http://www.amazon.com/Bernzomatic-JT539 ... pane+torch

been looking at that one, may get it jus to see how it works

but if ur mainly gonna be using it for lil soldering, get a pencil tip because the larger flames burn the insulation while you solder

You like those manual ones?

You have any that has the sparker unit built in like what I posted?

I have a Bernzomatic exactly like the one posted.

Works well and does not go out when turned down/sideways. It's pressure regulated. Lights in one click.

If you need to braze things bigger than terminals, get a higher end torch as this one does not produce enough heat to use on anything thicker than sheet metal.

Get one for MAPP gas if you need even more heat. MAPP canisters available at Peakes but not the torch. Go figure.

MAPP torch can use propane but propane torch can't use MAPP.
