Have to agree with xNeXuSx and Rainman - I'd recommend the OEM pads as well. They work great, and lasted me quite a while.

I tried the Hawks, but while cheaper somehow I still find myself missing the bite of the OEMs.

Bad o2 makes the car burn excessive fuel. This will clog the cat converter and waste gas thats about it

Guys, can anyone confirm if the engine and transmission mounts for the 2.0L and 1.6L models are the same? May try to bring them in myself if they are.

OK thanks for clarifying.

Any ideas on where they might be available locally then (the OEM mounts), besides S/Sales?

Check and see if is Faiz (Marabella) has them. they may be generic though. I think Gayahs at the top of Cipero Street in Sando may have too..

Nope - neither of them stock OEM Mazda mounts. All are aftermarket/generic.

Gayah’s
Right $454.25
Left $454.25
Rear $340
Trans none

Faiz
Right $225
Left $225
Rear $195
Trans $195

Still looking for the Mazda mounts, but no luck thus far…

Dem Mazda is rubbish! Just imagine that they would put the thermostat on the suction end of the WL engine than the output end. Don't we know what's going to happen mechanics?

Perhaps you can enlighten us on the difference this makes and the relevance to a Mazda 3 thread?

Got BC Racing Coilovers done on the Mz3 today. If you can afford it do it. I think this is some of the best money I spent on the car so far.

Finally getting a chance to post this update.
Ended up going with generic mounts, as I was unable to source oem Mazda ones outside S/Sales and they needed replacing urgently.
Turns out all 3 were totally shot. As you would imagine, the car rides MUCH better now :)

It seems that the rear and left side mounts for the 1.6L are the same as those found on the 2.0L. The right side mount (the large oil filled one) is different. Note this is just from my observations of pics and vids I've seen online - I can't confirm in person.

If I need to change them again though I'll order those 2 online from Mazda dealer.

BTW, anyone know where I can get original KYB Excel-G front shocks for the 3?
Couple places I checked who said they had ended up being some fake JAPKYB Pro-G brand.
Dollar Savers, who are the authorised KYB distributor only had the rears

You are correct, only the right side mount is different between the 1.6l and 2.0l, I can confirm this. A idea too would be to invest in the Whiteline rear mount poly inserts. That particular mount when it gets weak puts strain on the right side mount in particular. It is supposed to be softer than the one Corksport sells and should not make a tremendous amount of vibration inside your car. It may be your best bet to reinforce that mount particularly as it is aftermarket.

As for the KYB-Exel-G you could Sea Freight them in as I can't say where you would get that down here. This is yet another reason apart from my front driver side camber issues, why I went with Coil Overs too. When I checked this up as well as RB Springs and some camber plates from Corksport is was working up to more, not counting labour and alignment, than the coil overs installed. If you do come across those Shocks locally let us know still though. If it is within your means consider other shocks like the Bilsteins or Koni FSD shocks as well.

Thanks for confirming the mount similarities - good to know.

Those shocks you mentioned, while great, are a bit out of my budget. So l'm looking at the KYBs. I found Munroes almost everywhere, and Tokicos (yes you read that right) at Lange in Chaguanas.

My ears perked and eyes lit up when they said they had them, but after doing some research online in various Mazda forums, several people complained they didn't last very long. Almost everyone though said the KYBs were a very decent replacement shock.

I ordered new bump stops and dust protectors for all the shocks, as well as the rear shock mounts online so waiting for them to come in. Will keep searching for the front KYBs and post any updates if/when I get.
