Used to move around through POS in a big red (old) Sentinel Bedford truck on evenings... sometimes they would use that white panel van.

Really can’t believe it...

By the way... That's Not ASSL (Amalgamated Security Services Limied)- It's Sentinel Security Services Ltd - Two different Companies

Inertia and protection from bullets if police arrive and give pursuit.

With that kind of inertia they have no plans of stopping if in a chase and you can push other vehicles off the road and still stay on all 4 wheels.

Manning once said casinos are the biggest laundering fronts

Anyhow a strong point to note - about 50ft from where the man got killed/van got looted there is a camera. Is it working?

trinidad laws so screwed up they cant use camera as evidence most the could do is look over it to help find suspects but they will not be able to use recordings in court

This plan was very well thought of, considering the fluency of the crime .But to piece together evidence, I think a good start might be to why not call around hardware stores and find out who recently bought this amount of cement and if they loaded it into the ranger? Who does the ranger belong to or if it was stolen where and when?

Guard killed in highway robbery
Police: It was a well-planned operation

By Gyasi Gonzales gyasi.gonzales@trinidadexpress.com

Story Updated: Nov 27, 2013 at 11:00 PM ECT
A MANHUNT continues for the people responsible for the murder of estate superintendent Bert Clarke and the robbery involving approximately $250,000 when a Sentinel Security Service cash delivery van was ambushed along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway yesterday morning.
The incident occurred at 4.30 a.m. when the panel van, with two Sentinel employees, was headed east along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway en-route from Port of Spain to Piarco International Airport.
Police said in the vicinity of Johnson and Johnson Limited, outside Trincity Industrial Estate, the security van was struck from behind by a black Ford Ranger.
When the security company driver stopped, the occupants of the Ranger approached the guards.
The men opened fire, hitting Clarke, who was in the passenger seat. He died at the scene.
The officer in the driver’s seat got out of the van and ran into the bushes, while the thieves raided the van and stole the money.
Six bags containing cash were stolen. The thieves abandoned the Ranger and escaped in another vehicle. Only when police arrived on the scene did the surviving security guard emerge from the bushes.
The Ford Ranger, which contained several bags of cement in the tray, was identified as a stolen vehicle.
Police described yesterday’s robbery as a well-planned operation as they explained that the bags of cement served to stabilise the Ford Ranger as it slammed into the Sentinel van, as while the Sentinel vehicle spun out of control after being hit, the Ford Ranger kept its course.
Investigators said that they were bewildered, describing the operation as well-timed, and one senior officer questioned how could the bandits have known that there was a large amount of cash aboard the van at that time.
This was not the first time Sentinel Security has been robbed. In fact, in 2011, the company was robbed six times, of weapons as well as cash being transported.

Given the amount of planning that went into this, I doubt they went with the ranger and bought the cement (being a stolen vehicle and all)

I think it was more personal than that..
Those panel vans don't usually carry any big set of money, do they?

the black Ranger in the pic has money bags on the rear seat, it was a robbery, Police are looking for 2 men in a Nissan car

Same thing I figured.....What ever where in those countless, big brown packages in the back seat of the Ranger maybe the cause of this whole scene. Dont look like money bags to me tho

"Money Bags" are usually white and are made of a plastic material.. Also called "Deposit Bags" for the respective banks.

Money is always placed in these bags and sealed before given to the security company only for them to drop in the bank's "deposit box".

The Sentinel Van had just collected a "Raise" from a particular company and was marked for robbery by a certain "crew" of bandits.

Because these van ALWAYS have a "stereo-type" schedule... they can be easily targeted and planned for robbery.
Especially since this company Does Not have bullet proof vehicles etc.

Just some "old" men (with a small pistol in their waist) moving around with millions, in either a old breakdown Bedford truck or a regular panel van...

So your padna is kornt then? He know them bad conditions and still choose to work there?

Something real nice to say about a genuine person who got killed in during a honest day's work!

Many people work in life threatening, dangerous situations where their employers are more concerned about making money rather than the people at risk.
That's something new to your ears?

He has children and a family to take care of and he was doing it honestly. Not many people are as lucky as you are, where they can choose what conditions they prefer to work under.

The way this country is going... which workplace is “safe”?
I saw a customer quarrelling about a bill in T&TEC one day...
Got up, slammed the table, cussed, then told the CSR, “because I black.. allyuh want to rob me!... ah waitin outside for u yuh ole "Indo Trini"... watch yuh back yuh know... watch yuh back with me!”
He was then escorted out by the security.. but the guy could have done something more...

Saw another person who went in his car for a cutlass for a (local) worker in a Chinese Food Place because they got his order wrong.

Also... all them maxi and taxi drivers should also stop working since their lives are always at risk.. So many of them shot and killed in the past for money/vehicle etc..

And what about the average citizen... remember the guy who Gopiesingh son planass by d doubles man?...... who really safe nowadays?

Allyuh fellas really doh have a heart or a conscious for allyuh mouth...

Didn't even need to run thru all pages after this.....HOPEFULLY THIS STATEMENT should shut some of you up and make some of you understand hard work from easy work in life. Some can choose where they wanna work, some cant, and by force have to put out whatever it takes in whatever condition.

I am here to speak on behalf of the cement. They are innocent in this crime and do not appreciate having their character brought into question. They are always hard workers and share a strong bond with others in the construction industry.

Very true, but everyone slips up somewhere. But even the most "diabolical" of plans, has flaws.

News now saying it's actually 3.1million. Which makes more sense based on the amount of planning and the people necessary to pull it off.

wow but if those bandits not level headed enough in their own criminal world and any of them get greedy they might end up killing off each other.the poor man's family is the biggest loser for real.

Banks Lose $17 Million
Published:
Friday, November 29, 2013
DARREN BAHAW

Police and senior banking officials yesterday confirmed that bandits made off with $17 million in local currency and US$150,000 during the daring highway heist in Trincity, East Trinidad, on Wednesday, which left a veteran security officer dead. The robbery has been described as one of the largest in the nation’s history by both senior investigators assigned to the case and top members of the banking sector.

Senior banking officials said the money, which was packed in several bags, was an accumulation of funds to replenish several commercial banks in Tobago, including Scotiabank and state-owned First Citizens. Initial reports had suggested the bandits had made off with over $250,000. Given the precision nature of the attack, police are not ruling out that existing or former members of the protective services were involved in the crime.

Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of anti-crime operations Glenn Hackett, in a telephone interview yesterday, told the T&T Guardian last night that the police intend “to explore all possibilities.” He said while the evidence, so far, does not suggest that police or soldiers were involved “we would not completely rule it out.”

Hackett said members of the Crime Scenes Unit were scouring the three stolen vehicles left behind by the robbers with a view to extracting any evidence which could help solve the crime. He confirmed that no one had been arrested as yet.

Hackett said two teams of detectives had been assigned to the case, one led by Senior Supt John Daniel of the Homicide Bureau, who was gathering evidence to solve the murder of veteran security officer Asst Supt Bert Clarke, 59, of Bregon Park, D’Abadie, and another led by Senior Supt David Abraham, who were probing the robbery.

Police confirmed yesterday that they were yet to receive an official confirmation of the robbery from Sentinel Security Services Limited, or any word on exactly what was stolen during the robbery. Messages left for top officials of Sentinel by the T&T Guardian were not returned yesterday.

Driver in custody
Senior officers at the Port-of-Spain Criminal Investigations Department confirmed yesterday that they had to call in executive members of Sentinel Security Services last year after a series of robberies, including a strike on a cash-in-transit van in September 2012 at Gasparillo, where $1.2 million was stolen.

In July 2012, more than $200,000 was stolen from two Sentinel guards in Point Fortin, and on December 2011, the company’s head office, located at the corner of Stone Street and Duke Streets in Port-of-Spain, was broken into and $200,000 was stolen.

Banking sources yesterday said the courier service was on a routine trip to the Piarco Airport around 4.30 am, along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway, near the Trincity Industrial Estate, when it was rammed from behind by a black Ford Ranger which was loaded with bags of cement in the rear seat. New information released by police now suggests that three shooters emerged and began firing at the panel van.

Police recovered shotgun cartridges, 9 mm casings and 5.56 shells, usually used by high-powered assault rifles, scattered across the three lanes of the eastbound lane of the highway. Clarke was killed instantly while the driver of the van managed to run across the westbound lanes of the highway and hide in some bushes until police arrived on the scene. Detectives working the case confirmed the driver remained in custody last night.

After grabbing the loot, the robbers escaped in a white SUV which was later found abandoned near Millenium Park, Trincity, and another getaway car, a Nissan Almera, was found at a yet to be released location. All three vehicles were reported stolen earlier this week.

Questioned about the minimal security for such a large cash transit yesterday, a senior banking source said Sentinel Security Services was chosen because they had a special arrangement at the airport which allowed their vehicle to drive up to the parked aircraft to offload the money cargo. The two guards were to accompany their cargo on the first flight out of Piarco before handing it over to their colleagues at the Arthur NR Robinson Airport at Crown Point, sources said.

Banking body concerned
President of the Banking Association Larry Nath last night admitted that Wednesday’s strike on a cash-in-transit security vehicle along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in Trincity has prompted commercial banks to “revisit all of their security arrangements” when sending money to Tobago. Nath, the group CEO of state-owned bank First Citizens, said members of the association were “very concerned” following the robbery.

“We are working closely with the protective agencies in the recovery of the sums involved and also the apprehension of the perpetrators. This incident resulted in the loss of a life, which is tragic, and the Banking Association expresses is deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased,”

http://mbstories.quora.com/Robbers-Vs-Bank-Manager

Robbers Vs Bank Manager
Pankaj Mohanpuria
There was this robbery in Guangzhou , the robber shouted to everyone: "All don't move, money belongs to the state, life belongs to you".

Everyone in the bank laid down quietly.

This is called "Mind Changing Concept --> Changing the conventional way of thinking".
-------------------------------------------------
One lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her "Please be civilised! This is a robbery and not a rape!"

This is called "Being Professional --> Focus only on what you are trained to do!"
-------------------------------------------------
When the robbers got back, the younger robber (MBA trained) told the older robber (who is only primary school educated), "Big bro, let's count how much we got", the older robber rebutted and said, "You very stupid, so much money, how to count, tonight TV will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!"

This is called "Experience --> nowadays experience is more important than paper qualifications!"
-------------------------------------------------

After the robbers left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. The supervisor says "Wait, wait wait, let's put the 5 million RMB we embezzled into the amount the robbers robbed".

This is called "Swim with the tide --> converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!"
-------------------------------------------------

The supervisor says "It will be good if there is a robbery every month".

This is called "Killing Boredom --> Happiness is most important."
-------------------------------------------------

The next day, TV news reported that 100 million RMB was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count 20 million RMB. The robbers were very angry and complained "We risked our lives and only took 20 million RMB, the bank manager took 80 million RMB with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated to be a thief!"

This is called "Knowledge is worth as much as gold !"
-------------------------------------------------

The bank manager was smiling and happy because his loss in the CINOPEC shares are now covered by this robbery.

This is called "Seizing the opportunity --> daring to take risks!"
