An Arima man was killed in a drive-by shooting during rush hour traffic in Couva this afternoon.
Police said the man was standing at Roop's Junction, along the Southern Main Road, when a car pulled alongside him at around 3p.m.
The occupants of the Nissan Almera car opened fire on the man. Several bystanders, including school children, began scampering. He died at the scene. Police had no immediately identity, except that the man was nicknamed "Fish" from Arima. He was wearing a yellow shirt, jeans and his hair was braided.
A team of police officers including senior superintendent Johnny Abraham and inspector Terrence Williams responded to the report and the getaway vehicle was intercepted in Perseverance Village, Couva.
Police said four men of Maloney were detained at the Chaguanas police station.
Abraham said, "It looks like these people bringing their gang war in Central. But I will not allow that to happen here. We are prepared to deal with them. I always advise my officers to look out for strange vehicles and people in the community and that is how we find them."
