If you are gaming. Stick to win 7
I use both 7 and 8 and I can say 8 is really good for apps. Tune in radio etc etc. however unless you have a touchscreen it becomes very annoying.
My opinion. If you want to upgrade ensure u have
A touchscreen
Patience to get familiar with the new system.
A capable system which I'm sure you have but just mentioning
Also remember win 7 is a completely proven OS which is fully supported and will still be viable in some years to come. Windows 8 still has some issues.
If it's your main pc I would consider keeping win 7, it's not any amazing leap windows 8 offers, such as XP to win 7 but there are definitely some pros but also many cons.
In the end it's up to you. And remember the full experience cannot be achieved without a touchscreen. Hope this was helpful.

With respect to gpus, expensive is not always best. I know people trying to work within budgets and what not so don't let people fool you into wasting money.
My build for example would be over the top for some people.
When building, consider what you want from your system, the games you run and how high quality you need. Then look at the card that meet your specs.
My system for example I could have used Titans, but I didn't and the simple reason is that, while they are great gpu's, very expensive even compared to mine, they are workstation gpu's. That is, their optimization is for processing video which is why the high memory but offers very little more performance.
So don't be fooled. Get the specs you need or want at the price you need. Do research before considering purchase and don't just think something is better because it's more expensive.

I have an AOC 19" Widescreen LCD monitor (917sW) - Its VGA btw and im using a DVI - VGA adapter... Whenever i boot the PC for an hour or 2 the pc shows signs of sticking (mouse sticking) and then all of a sudden the monitor goes black and says 'No Signal'... The CPU remains on and running smooth (no overheating etc)... Then when i leave the PC off for another hour or 2 it comes back on normal and the monitor works... The monitor is about 3 - 4 years old... What could be the cause of this?...
Did you get this sorted out...Im having similar problems with a Nvidia 780, the older 460 works fine on the same system.
System specs are: i7 3770k processor, 16gd Corsair Vengeance 4No @ 4gb each ram, Asus p8 z77-v lk motherboard, and the nvidia gtx 780, corsair hx750 power supply. I originally had a 660ti that exhibited similar problems and returned it and went for the 780 but now this to is doing the same thing. Am i that lucky to have gotten two bad cards?
Did you check the temps on the card before it cut off ?
Exactly. Download "EVGA Precision X" and check the temp on the card. Sounds like it's overheating and shutting down to protect itself. Either the fans on the card are not spinning or it's in a case with no proper airflow in a room that is hot already.
Try setting the speed on max and run the program so you can see your temps card usage on top.

you didn't apply that notion to your own rig though lol

Also cleared up alot of space on my desk, I miss surround a little but a 27" screen does give a great sense of immersion. Eventually I plan to get two more in the future when next gen cards are released so hopefully it'll be more affordable and I'll have more power to push that resolution.
Using the Asus PB278Q. Great deals in Amazon warehouse for a barely used one, paid $500 to clear it.

What was wrong got some dead pixels/bad back light bleed? Was considering the Dell also but got a better deal price wise with the Asus and also read more bad reviews about the Dell vs Asus.2NR Smurf wrote:How much more taxing is 1440p on your 2 680s? We have a similar setup, every game I ( haven't tried Tombraider / Metro yet but sure performance is the same) run it maxed out and never dip below 60 FPS (BF3, Crysis 3, Borderlands 2, BioShock) and the good thing about 1440p is no need for AA to be on because of the high res it smooths everything out so you get better performance with it off and it still looks miles better than a 1080p display w/ AA turned on. To me my system is being utilised much better now than when I had the surround setup, and it's easier on my eyes as well (main reason I switched), all games/movies look so much sharper the difference is really amazing. Gonna try batman AO a lil later today
