Apple Sends Out Invitations for October 22 Media Event: 'We Still Have a Lot to Cover'

In line with its usual timing, Apple has just issued media invitations for its October 22 media event where the company is expected to introduce its next-generation iPad and iPad mini models and offer a number of Mac-related announcements, reports AllThingsD. The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and will begin at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. The invitation tagline reads "We still have a lot to cover."

The October 22 date was first reported by AllThingsD earlier this month, and was quickly confirmed by the The Loop's ever-reliable Jim Dalrymple.

The original AllThingsD report claimed that event will focus on the iPad updates, but that OS X Mavericks and the redesigned Mac Pro will also be featured at the event. Apple is due to release a number of other product updates, perhaps most notably new MacBook Pros, but it is apparently still unclear whether those updates will be a part of next week's event.

So far the 5s feels right at home yet slightly different than my iPhone 4. It definitely is lighter. New screen is larger but I'm not sold on really needing a bigger screen over what I had on the 4. iOS 7 definitely is a smoother experience than on the 4. Parallax effect is subtle but cool and wasn't an option on the 4.

I'm impressed with iCloud. I started up the phone, put in my bmobile sim and restored from iCloud and all my apps and emails and pics plus vids are downloading while I post this from the 5s itself. Seamless pretty much.

Touch ID is easy to setup and also have me the option to use a passcode as well. Haven't unlocked the phone since then to test it yet. The setup guides you through on how to place your finger at different angles for the sensor to read your finger correctly etc. it recognizes if you are not changing how you are placing your finger during the setup as well so there is no chance of a botched/stuck setup.

I ordered the gold 5s and the colour is subtle. In different lighting it changes colour and can look silver at times. Not gaudy at all.

So far no hiccups. Will post more as I try out different things.

Just tried out touch ID. It takes one press of finger to unlock phone. If another finger that it doesn't recognize is used the phone does not unlock. If the correct finger is subsequently used it doesn't just unlock but asks for the passcode so you will know if someone attempted to unlock your phone.

If someone is trying to unlock your phone they better guess right the first time to avoid the pass code.

Just for those looking for factory unlocked iphone 5s. This was bought as a contract free tmobile 5s from apple directly. It worked out the box with ab mobile sim. Full price iPhones from Apple are factory unlocked.

Yes it was bought factory unlocked. Will edit post for clarity. Was reinforcing that it is unlocked and no issues even though Apple geniuses saying it wouldn't be unlocked if bought as a Tmobile phone.

most people know that buying an iPhone without contract at full price is a sure sign that the phone is unlocked.

There are many persons who are not sure about this especially with the 5s. There are many who looked to Apple's page specifically for an unlocked iphone 5s with no mention to Tmobile, AT&T, Verizon etc and this rounds there was confusion as it wasn't clearly stated as with previous iphones. See posts earlier in this thread as well as other threads with thousands of posts on Macrumors that are ongoing to this day.

Good to see it worked out. Hopefully the same conditions would apply when the 6 comes out. Make life easier for me to get it from the US than Canada as I have been the last 2 iPhones I've bought

iPhones have never had branding or splash screens of any sort. It came with a tmobile nano sim which I already lost.

Cut bmobile microsim with a nano sim cutter and restored from iCloud. Working like previous 4.

Except for gmail in the mail app stopped working cuz google no longer uses exchange servers. The bastards.

Apple is cutting iPhone 5c orders from its suppliers by 35 percent according to analysts at NPD DisplaySearch (via AllThingsD), echoing prior reports from The Wall Street Journal and Reuters.

However, the new report goes further, claiming that iPhone 5s production has been boosted by 75 percent. This would seem to be promising news for Apple because increased sales of the 5s would lift its average revenue per iPhone sold.

Image

While the fate of the iPhone 5c is still to be determined, the iPhone 5s is doing quite well, indicating that Apple still has a strong hardcore base for its premium devices. It is worth mentioning that iPhone 5 production is scheduled to end Q3 2013; iPhone 4s’s end of life is still to be determined, as it still receives orders of 1 to 2 million units per month and only recently started selling in Indonesia.

The iPhone 5s has been in somewhat short supply with shipping lead times of 2-3 weeks from the Apple Online Store.

Apple recently began a new print ad campaign for the iPhone 5s, the first advertisements we've seen for that device after several weeks of a sustained and prominent television campaign for the iPhone 5c.

Apple CEO Tim Cook warned earlier this year about looking at any particular rumor out of the company's supply chain because, even if one is accurate, they do not paint a full picture of Apple's operations.

Cool. When you do see one post back. I think many pics don't do it justice including those I took with a 4 with skewed white balance.
