WTK: Tweeters to replace NB2's

Postby lilpimp » September 1st, 2013, 9:37 pm

Hello Trinituners. I’m currently using 6 inch faital pro (6FE200) speakers with NB2 tweeters (2.2 micro farad condensers) on each door while maintaining the stock look. They are powered by an ARC AUDIO XDI 80.4 four channel amp.

I’m wondering what type of tweeters to buy to replace the NB2’s with much better sound quality and power handling and to keep the stock look instead of big bulky bullet tweeters. I will give the NB2’s credit for power handling and acceptable sound quality for such cheap tweeters $100 a pair.

I will like to get some of your opinions on what to buy.

Thanks very much and looking forward to your replies. :D

I ran a very similar setup in my little brothers hilux. It consisted of Arc Audio XDi tweeters, Faital Pro 6FE200 midbasses, Arc Audio ACS230 Crossovers and they were powered off of an Arc Audio XDI804. Stock Headunit, No preamp, just an Audiocontrol LC2i line converter. To this day that's one of if not the best midrange i have ever heard without a drop of processing. I ran one 6" bridged on the front and one 6" bridged on the rear both @ 4ohms never a smell or anything from the tweeters. So power handling was excellent. If anything i felt as though the set could have handled more power.

If that's the set that comes with the type S compts don't, go for the hybrid L1, way better sibilance and overall sound. The one on the type s is worst than an nb1 IMO.

The problem with those cheap tweeters is that they only last a very short period of time. After a couple months or so with regular use the sound characteristic changes and it doesn't sound right. You'll have to keep continually correcting the sound until the tweeter fails.

Better to spend a little more and get a proper tweeter.

Yeah that's true. The hybrid audio L1's are the way to go in a few weeks. I will have to make a few sacrifices for those tweeters.

Thanks you the info everyone I’ll go with the L1's. :D
