If you don't have Photoshop or any image editing software you can use a programme called PAINT that comes with all or most PCs to resize your images for STANDARD SIZE UPLOADING when they are to large to upload. Here are some steps in using PAINT to resize your images for standard size uploading:

Nice post OP, but I couldn't get past step 1... unfortunately my PC doesn't have any programmes on it :-(

5. In the RESIZE boxes change the values from 100 to about 50 or lower in both horizontal and vertical value boxes (make sure the values are equal in both boxes) and click OK.

6. Now save it, click FILE - SAVE AS - rename the image so that you don't replace the original. Make sure the image is in JPEG format when saving it. If the image is still to large go over the procedure and set lower values in the RESIZE boxes until you get the correct size for uploading.

Continue these steps for all the images you wish to upload.

should i use berger or penta? or is there some other brand you recommend for best results?

This one is for my fellow Linux brethren (though if you're an avid Linux user, chances are you won't need this tutorial, but what the heck...) Oh, & I'm assuming that you already have the larger-than-desired pic stored on your PC for this...

STEP:
1. Right click on the desired picture & highlight the option "Open With";
2. In the pop-out sub-menu, click on "GIMP Image Editor" (if you don't have this app, download it from your software center);
3. When the app loads the pic, click on the "Image" menu & select "Scale Image";
4. In the pop-up window, under the heading "Image Size", enter the desired width/height you'd like the pic to be reduced to (I usually go with 800x600 for standard 4x3 ratio images or vice versa for 3x4 ratio images). If you're unsure of the ratio of your pic, just enter a nice, round number below 1000 pixels & click on the little "chain-looking" button at the side of & in between both modifiable values. The "chain-looking" button inputs the appropriate value for the width/height based on whichever value you entered & maintains the image's native aspect ratio;
5. Click on the "File" menu then "Save" if you don't mind overwriting the original image OR "Save As" if you wish to save the image separately (you'll be required to rename this new image);
6. Click on "Save" then "Save" again & that's it! You can close the app now & proceed to upload your perfectly condensed image!

Now go unleash your pics onto the internet, Linux users!
