Your tank should be up and running closer to a year + for a starfish to settle in and survive. They eat all kinda stuff like detrius, algae, leftover foods etc........How long your tank up. To me temp also affects them

I had thrown back the snappers, and just had the one tomtate grunt, a hermit and a reef crab. Grunt was doing real well, but it was my fault for not using a heavier cover. Released the 2 crabs back at small boats...have tons of good reef stuff there. Saw some scorpionfishes, big clams and I castnetted some sargeant majors, yellow striped ones. Will give it a go again when I get bored lol.

I fiddled around with both of the lights for over an hr by raj and I still prefer the Razors.
They even look better. Both prices steep. Online the razors had much better reviews.
You could even think about the Kessils.

^^^^really cant remember the prices nah. Was never interested in them. To me you cant beat some good T5's for growth. lot of tank men on reefcentral still get good growth with MH or T5's and use LED's to enhance the color. I still running my 12 bulb T5 setup and the coral growth is great. My spaghetti leather is over 18" with a stalk of about 4". The green polyp toadstool is over 12" when fully extended. My frogspawn has more than 20 heads which I've fragged more than once and have them growing out in my frag tank. I wont complain about them. guess I still old school. Guess the choice is still up to you.

the RODI I bought from raj is $2500. Comes with the pump installed, prefilter, 5 micron filter, charcoal, 1 micron filter and then passes tru the DI filter. All this and you get a warranty. I bought the TDS meter separate. Running mine over 2 yrs now. DI resin is used up the most cause I only get to make about 60-70 gal of water before the reading get above "1". I dump the resin after that.

nick639 wrote:ok somebody give me a place to go check out to get a full set up and advice na....i jus wanna go in a shop, buy a aquarium and 2 fish like nemo, a lil eel and prob one or 2 other and make sure dey live forever with proper advice from the shop etc. I prefer to go into a shop instead of get by parts and make the entire set up from scratch. any help would be appreciated.

that's the problem with petshops in TNT, 90% only in it for the money and have no clue about setting up a proper tank. Most don't don't even tell tell you about live rock, or bacteria or anything like that. They just put water in, put some rock and want to dump 10 fish in there one time. This process takes time. Depends on the system, you may have to put water and live rock in and wait a good 2 wks before you can even put one fish in (maybe a damsel, chromis or like me, some mollies) to start the cycle. You still have to buy a full test kit to test. This kit must include Ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and PH. You have a lot of reading to do. Get to know some of the guys on the forum that have systems set up and take some advise and ideas from them. A lot of people figure setting up a saltwater setup is just like running a freshwater setuo with some guppies and goldfish.........but its not.

That's why I came up with the idea of Goin to a shop to see em... See I don't wanna fall short on anything and risk ruining my investment or stressing out the fish I put in it.. If any1 has a tank around this size throw in a equipment list and info if u could.

*sand (not the regular gravel for freshwater tanks) and it should cover 2-3".
*30-50lbs live rock
*salt - 50gal bag
*a good brand hang on filter (50gal+) or a good canister filter. (you could do a tank overflow system and have a sump)
*2 power heads for either side of tank
*lights (either T5 or led's) - if its the T5's, make sure you using the ones for saltwater
use. If you use regular bulbs for freshwater use, you'll get bad algae blooms.
*bottle bacteria will help speed up the process
*Protien Skimmer (not mandatory)
* RO/DI water (note: bottled water is not RO/DI water)
