BIR On-Line Tax Calculator

Postby Bareback » April 25th, 2013, 9:13 am

For anyone who is interested, the Ministry of Finance/ Board of In-Land Revenue has on their website an online tax calculator which allows you to complete your taxes in easy to follow terms, save the file and print the pages you need.

http://www.ird.gov.tt/taxcalc/default.aspx?yor=2012

Took 5 minutes to complete once you have your documents and figures ready.

I get the paper form every year but only ever use this online system. Much more efficient IMO.

once you have one form of income (employers income) you are not obligated to file.

from my understanding, once you working for a registered company and they deduct PAYE and your only form of income is from said employer then they are responsible for paying "tax" on your behalf.

this means that if they frig up and deduct less, that's their problem.
never found out what happens if they deduct more

i don't usually understand much so i can be wrong

@Moti

nope if the company filed wrong, you still have to pay.
They might pay on your behalf to avoid you getting hit with the lump sum, but may spread it over the course of the year as a salary deduction.

when you are represented by a union they can't

they tried that shot with me when their "system" malfunctioned
called the union and the accountant was told that they must pay the balance of funds owed and that i cannot be responsible for their error.

they paid, i gained :P
